'Batman vs Superman: Dawn of Justice' release date, cast, plot & spoilers: Lego artist Nathan Sawaya debuts his Batmobile, a better model than the movie?
In celebration of DC Comics' 80th year, visionary artist Nathan Sawaya created a 3D rendition of the Batmobile using Lego bricks, Entertainment Weekly reports. The New York-based artist has been known to create magnificent sculptures from Lego bricks, including a large-scale T-rex, Edvard Munch's The Scream, and the Oscar statuette for the 2015 Academy Awards. This time, he created the iconic Batmobile using 500,000 Lego pieces.
"This is a dream project," Sawaya told EW in an exclusive interview. "This is the Batmobile! What other vehicle is so iconic?"
The Lego Batmobile is 18 feet long and took the 42-year-old artist two months to create. The piece is part of Sawaya's latest exhibition titled The Art of Brick: DC Comics, and the piece will make its first appearance at Australia’s Powerhouse Museum in Sydney this November.
"For the Batmobile in particular, I collaborated with [DC co-publisher] Jim Lee, who was so gracious to actually draw live at a panel at Comic Con for a design of a new Batmobile while we were taking suggestions from the audience," Sawaya said of the project. "So as that was how this all started. I used his drawing as a bit of a blueprint to come up with the actual Lego structure and then created this Batmobile brick by brick."
Sawaya added: "Batman is one of the iconic characters, of course, he’s one of my favorites."
Speaking of Batman, who makes a comeback to the big screen this March 2016, Examiner reports that the highly anticipated Batman v Superman has been given a PG-13 rating by the Motion Picture Association of America (MPAA). According to the MPAA, the Ben Affleck/Henry Cavill film will feature "intense sequences of violence and action throughout, and some sensuality."
Rounding up the cast are Jeremy Irons as Alfred Pennyworth, Gal Gadot as Wonder Woman, Jason Momoa as Aquaman, Ezra Miller as The Flash, and Ray Fisher as Cyborg.
DC has began rolling out publicity for the film, beginning with a Fortune Magazine profile on Lex Luthor, who is played by Jesse Eisenberg. In the exclusive interview, "Lex Luthor" talks about LexCorp.
"Dad named the company after himself ten years before I made my unexpected entrance into his life. But investors seemed to respond to the idea of an adoring father building a legacy for his precious son," Luthor explained. "He used that to his advantage. It was a good shtick and, whatever else he was, he was a good businessman."
Luthor also enigmatically talked about a "new product" that will help protect the world from threats. He said, "We are on the cusp of unveiling a technology that will change the world forever. It’s about safety. This is a product that will protect you, and everyone, from threats you don’t even know about yet. I don’t want to scare anybody...much. But there are a lot of threats out there, and they’re here today."
Batman v. Superman hits theaters on March 25, 2016.
