'Bridget Jones 3' cast, news & update: Renee Zellweger is back but swaps diary for an iPad
Eleven years have passed since the release of the “Bridget Jones’s Diary” sequel, “Bridget Jones: The Edge of Reason”, and as it apparently seemed too long to do a “Bridget Jones 3”, fans thought it will be the end of the franchise as well. However, as this is Hollywood, movies can be resurrected from the graveyard whenever an opportunity comes up, giving a new meaning to the saying “the show is not over until the fat lady sings.” True enough, Renee Zellweger will reprise her role as the lovable Bridget Jones in the third installment of the franchise, “Bridget Jones’s Baby”, which will finally add a modern twist to the iconic story.
The official Twitter account of Universal Pictures UK sent fans into retweet frenzy when the company officially announced that “Bridget Jones 3” had started filming, accompanied by a photo of Zellweger holding a red iPad and looking mischievous as ever.
Entertainment Tonight Online reports that while details are scarce, one thing is certain and that is the movie plot will not be following Helen Fielding’s “Bridget Jones: Mad About The Boy” story. In the book series, Mark Darcy will be killed off much to the dismay of the book fans. At least the movie will show how Bridget is adjusting to life of a young mother. Colin Firth is said to comeback as Bridget’s dashing husband Mark but Hugh Grant, who played Daniel Cleaver, Bridget’s ex-boyfriend and notorious playboy, will be giving the movie a pass.
Grant confirmed this piece of news in a radio interview, stating, “The book's excellent, by the way, but the script is completely different -- well, the script as I last saw it a few years ago.” The Daily Mail UK adds that while Grant is out, former “Grey’s Anatomy” star Patrick Dempsey has joined the cast, adding a bit more eye candy to the movie and spreading rumors that he can be a new love interest for Bridget. Dempsey even posted on his Instagram how much fun he had filming in London. Sharon Maguire will once again direct the third Bridget Jones film with David Nicholls and Fielding writing the script.
It has been almost a year since Zellweger made headlines, after showing totally unrecognizable during the “ELLE Women in Hollywood Awards”, which made people to think that she had Botox and an eye lift. Hopefully, the changes in her looks will not change the love fans feel about Bridget.
And speaking of changes, Bustle predicted the third movie will be totally different from the first two films because, for starters, 2015 is not 2001 nor 2004. Caller ID will be a thing of the past and for every mistake she commits, it will be going viral in seconds. It will be fun to imagine how things will be after storyline has been more than a decade apart.
“Bridget Jones’s Baby” is slated to be premier on September 16 next year.
