'Batman vs Superman: Dawn of Justice' release date, cast, plot & spoilers: astrophysicist Neil deGrasse Tyson shares his take on how Batman can defeat Superman
Comic books create a world large enough for creative minds to play in, and astrophysicist Neil deGrasse Tyson isn't one to shy away from fan theories on pop culture, including films. In fact, the Washington Post reported in June that Tyson had weighed in on the inaccuracies of films such as Gravity and Interstellar, and is known to be a big fan of Star Trek.
Entertainment Weekly reports that the 57-year-old author and lecturer took to Twitter once more to share his comments on the latest intergalactic film to hit cinemas—Ridley Scott's The Martian.
Tyson tweeted, "In the @MartianMovie, they got crucial science right, while enhancing the story by fictionalizing the science that remained."
He also criticized the film, saying that it's the job of the Johnson Space Center in Houston to track astronauts, not NASA's Pasadena-based Jet Propulsion Laboratory. He also tweeted, "Evidence that the @MartianMovie is fantasy: All who make important decisions are scientifically literate."
More recently, Tyson shared his thoughts on another hit franchise that will hit theaters early next year. Cinema Blend reports that Tyson shared his thoughts on how Bruce Wayne can defeat Clark Kent in the upcoming Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice film.
According to Tyson, while Batman may be a mere mortal, he can win against Superman in an "outside the box" situation. He said, "In most stories, Batman doesn’t try to take down Superman with just his Batsuit and Batarangs given that...well, he’s not stupid."
Tyson explained, "If he’s not carrying a piece of Kryptonite, he’s either donning massive armor, as seen in The Dark Knight Returns and next year’s Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, or using other unique gadgets to help level the playing field."
Tyson also comments that the better opponent for Batman would be Marvel's Iron Man, who he believes would win that battle because Tony Stark invented all the machines himself, whereas Bruce Wayne depends on his back-end personnel.
Meanwhile, IGN reports that Batman v Superman official still photographer Clay Enos released a new photo of the Dark Knight standing sullenly by his Batmobile. Enos posted the photo on his Instagram account, with the caption "You asked for it..."
DC has begun rolling out marketing for the upcoming Batman v Superman film beginning with a Fortune profile of billionaire Lex Luthor Jr. Slash Film reports that another the profile is followed by a new video advertisement for the release of Lex/OS, which claims to be the world's most secure private operating system.
