Caitlyn Jenner's mother recovering after breaking both hips
Reality TV star Caitlyn Jenner recently opened up about the health problems of her mother, Esther, E! Online reports. The 65-year-old former Olympian took to Twitter to post a photo of herself with her mother, writing, "Visiting my mom and she's doing great after breaking both her hips. She's been mobile—she's tough."
Jenner's reality TV series, "I am Cait," saw the two meet for the first time after Jenner's gender transition. Esther told Access Hollywood after seeing Jenner's Vanity Fair cover, "She's beautiful!"
The 88-year-old added: "I was there last week, well actually, I got home a week and a half ago. And I met Caitlyn. She is… so much more at ease."
The matriarch, who has been very supportive of her now daughter, also said, "It's going to be a struggle for me to get used to the change, but happily so… I'm very happy for him—or her!"
In a July episode of I am Cait, Esther said of Cait, "I loved him with all my heart, and I certainly love her with all my heart."
Entertainment Weekly also reports that in a bonus clip from the series, Esther spoke about the stigma of gender transition. She said, "It seems as though when people start to have more understanding, the stigma of being different goes away."
Speaking of stigma, Jenner was recently criticized by talk show host Wendy Williams, Inquisitr reports. According to Williams, Jenner is not a real woman unless she goes through gender reassignment surgery.
Inquisitr further reports that even Khloe had a few choice words for Jenner after the Vanity Fair tell-all story that claimed Kris Kardashian was mistreating Jenner during their marriage.
Khloe said, "Do as many articles as you want and do as many great things for the transgender community, but how does that mean bashing my mom?… I am all for [Jenner] screaming from the rooftops about her transition. I think it’s beautiful and I think Caitlyn should take pride in everything that she’s doing and the strength that it takes to do what she’s doing on such a public platform. That being said, [Jenner] does not need to tear anyone else down to build herself up."
Jenner has since been championing the rights of the LGBT community, using her platform to raise awareness on the pressing issues that face LGBT's worldwide. Daily Mail reports that Jenner took to Instagram to show her support for GLAAD's upcoming Spirit Day on Oct. 15.
Launched in 2010, Spirit Day is an annual event encouraging individuals to take "a stand against bullying and to show support for lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) youth." Supporters are encouraged to wear purple, the color that represents spirit in the rainbow flag.
