Apple iMac 2015 launch: everything you need to know
While the anticipation for the upcoming 2016 MacBook Pro and MacBook Air are still at its peak, Apple has announced a new lineup for the 2015 iMac and it seems that it will not only be a CPU refresh but a total overhaul that fans and loyal followers will be excited about.
According to Mac Rumors, iMac 2015 will be available in two variants: 21.5-inch 4K retina display and 27-inch 5K retina display. Besides the sizes and screens, the new desktop computers will have better graphics, faster processors, Thunderbolt 2 ports, and an upgrade to 2 TB Fusion Drive storage.
The 4K retina display will be running on 3.1GHz Core i7 Broadwell with Intel Iris Pro Graphics 6200 while the 5K retina display will have a processor that runs on either 3.2 GHz Core i5 or 3.3 GHz Core i7 Skylake.
Philip Schiller, the senior vice president of Apple’s Worldwide Marketing, states that ever since the company has developed the iMac, it has never failed to deliver the latest technology inclusive of cutting-edge designs, displays, and incredible desktop experience. But, the 2015 iMac will be the most stunning of all the iMacs Apple has made, especially with the addition of the Magic accessories, Schiller adds.
Engadget adds that the addition of the input device collection known as the Magic accessories like the Magic Mouse 2, Magic Trackpad 2, and the all-new Magic Keyboard will even make the new iMac extremely fascinating for fans and customers. These devices will be the surprise addition when customers get either the 4K or 5K iMac.
In terms of competition, the 2015 iMac line-up will not have much especially since they will be releasing for the first time, a smaller variant in the form of the 21.5-inch. However, at a starting price of $1,999 for the lower-end models to $2,499 for the flagship configuration, customers may find it too expensive when they can buy the MacBook Pro with the same retina display of 4K at a much lower price.
But, Mac World writes that while it is true that the new iMac are available at a pricier cost, it still has its advantages such as a larger screen, which gives better 4096 x 2304 pixels than any laptops combined. Besides, with eh addition of the speedier Thunderbolt 2 ports and the addition of the latest Skylake sixth-generation processors, customers will realize in the end that the price is definitely worth it.
