Weight loss tips & tricks: 5 low-carb food swaps for a healthier, fitter you
They say there are two kinds of people who are on diet--- the low-fat type and the low-carb kind of guys. That is, of course, casting out the infamous group of crash-dieters. All of them devoted to the merits of their own crusades.
But in one recent study funded by Atkins Nutritionals, the low-carb diet bested the competition based on the findings that there is a greater chance of weight loss for those adhering to this particular diet, according to Medical Daily. And for those who would want to jump in to the bandwagon, here are some of the low-carb food you can switch to for starters. Aside from their lower calorie intake, they are also definitely healthier. Oh, and let's not forget, they are extremely delicious.
Scrambled Eggs with Veggies
In this article by the Huffington Post, Kelly Pritchett, RD, Ph.D., a spokesperson for the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics; Tracee Yablon Brenner, RD and CEO of Real Food Moms; and Kimberly Gomer, a registered dietitian at Pritikin Longevity Center recommend going for simple food swaps to curb calorie intake.
One example of this low-carb meal is the substitute for egg sandwich. Put in veggies into your usual scrambled eggs such as tomatoes, mushrooms, or spinach for that fiber-rich and energy-boosting meal.
Frozen Bananas instead of Ice cream
They also recommend ditching that sugar-filled and calorie-laden dessert. Rather than eating ice cream, opt for a frozen banana. You can also use a food processor to mimic that creamy texture. And in doing so, you would be munching a healthy alternative loaded with lots of potassium, folate and vitamin C.
Low-Carb Spaghetti Bolognese
Spaghetti is an all-time favorite food and a staple in many households around the world. It is the go-to meal for most occasions and family get-togethers. Kids would often request for it, or, you can have it anytime just because you love it. But the pasta that goes along with it packs a lot of calories. So, why not go for the low-carb version, instead.
Meet the zoodles or zucchini noodles. Simply replace the pasta with zucchini and you've got a low-carb, gluten-free, fiber-rich, and very nutritious alternative. Check out this recipe by DitchTheCarbs on how to prepare your spaghetti Bolognese using zoodles.
Turkey Taco Lettuce Wraps
For a low-carb version of our favorite tacos snack, MyFitnessPal recommends substituting the usual corn and flour tortillas with the fresh and healthier lettuce. You can create your delicious filling and place them on top of the lettuce wraps.
Low-Carb Pepperoni Pizza Chicken Bake
This recipe is definitely a treat for all those who are really big on pizza, but would want to cut down on calories. This alternative has less carbs but won't skimp in taste when, in fact, it could be more delicious than the usual.
Simply replace your regular dough with boneless-skinless chicken breasts, says Kalyn's Kitchen. Top them with your favorite pizza sauce, lots of pepperoni, mozzarella, and spices for a truly mouth-watering treat.
