'Bad Moms' gets a make-over as Mila Kunis, Kristen Bell, Christina Applegate replace Leslie Mann
STX Entertainment has revived a project formerly starring Leslie Mann and produced by Trainwreck's Judd Apatow, The Hollywood Reporter reveals. The film, which was first titled "Bad Moms" before Mann and Apatow departed from the project, is yet-untitled, but has "The Hangover" writers Jon Lucas and Scott Moore directing the film. Scott and Moore wrote the script, while Suzanne Todd and Bill Block will produce.
The film brings together Mila Kunis, Christina Applegate and Kristen Bell in a story about an overachieving mother who finds kinship among two other overly stressed moms who together decide to liberate themselves and go on a wild binge that involves freedom, fun and self-indulgence. Think The Hangover, but with a female twist. Of course, the moms will find trouble and may have to go up against the picture-perfect moms led by PTA Queen Bee.
STX’s president and CCO Oren Aviv said of the project, "Jon Lucas and Scott Moore are masters at creating relatable characters that audiences instantly embrace, and then putting them in hilarious real-life situations for great comedic results."
"This film provides the rare opportunity for a half-dozen strong female lead roles, and we are thrilled to have assembled an exceptional cast led by Mila Kunis, Christina Applegate and Kristen Bell," he announced. "We can’t wait to start production and be part of the magic this team will bring to the screen."
Meanwhile, Christina Applegate joins "Star Wars: The Force Awakens" star Domhnall Gleeson, Thomas Haden Church and Nina Dobrev in the romantic comedy "Crash Pad," which Variety reports has begun shooting in Vancouver. The film follows Gleeson's character, a hopeless romantic who believes he has found "the one" in Applegate's character, but later on finds out that he was merely a fling and that she is married to Church's character. Kevin Tent is directing the film, while Alexander Payne is producing, with a script by Jeremy Catalino.
Mila Kunis, on the other hand, will also be busy behind the camera, as Deadline reports that NBC has greenlighted the development of the single-camera comedy, "The Russians Are Coming." The series is from Universal Television and Mila Kunis’ Orchard Farm Productions, in which she serves as executive producer alongside production partners Cami Curtis, Susan Curtis, and Lisa Sterbakov. The comedy is written and co-executive produced by Finding Carter's Sam Wolfson.
Kristen Bell is currently filming The Boss alongside Melissa McCarthy, Daily Mail reports. The actresses team up for the film, directed by McCarthy's husband, Ben Falcone, and also stars Game of Thrones' and X-Men's Peter Dinklage. The film is set for an April 2016 release.
