2015 Tokyo Motor Show: 5 of the craziest & coolest cars revealed
Japan is one of the frontrunners when it comes to car technology and manufacturing. And just recently, these proud people once again flexed their muscles to show off some of the coolest, borderline insane vehicles at the 2015 Tokyo Motor Show. Now, let's check out some of the cars and prepare to be blown away.
Toyota Kikai Concept
The Japanese carmaker behind this bold design put it best, the Toyota Kikai "takes the machinery, normally hidden beneath the body, and makes an open display of its beauty." For Car and Driver, the three-seater vehicle looks like a cross between a Ford T-bucket hot rod and a dune buggy. One remarkable feature of the interior is the center position of the driving wheel. It has two backseats behind the driver's.
Nissan's Concept 2020 Vision Gran Turismo
According to a press release from Nissan just a year ago, the Nissan Concept 2020 Vision Gran Turismo is their vision of what a high performance Nissan could look like in the future, the AutoBlog notes. With its striking Fire Knight red color, the car is really a stunner and one that looks like something you might have seen from a videogame. And that is because this car was created through close collaboration with the creators of Gran Turismo®, Polyphony Digital Inc., the legendary PlayStation® driving franchise.
Mazda RX-Vision
An article from Maxim describes this car as the red beauty from Mazda that's "a lady in the streets and a freak in the stat sheets". The Skyactiv-R engine inside the Mazda RX-Vision is a testament that the automaker company might be planning to re-introduce the technology in the market despite limitations in terms of fuel consumption and pollution issues.
Yamaha Sports Ride Concept
This sleek-looking car was developed by Gordon Murray Design in England. It has carbon fiber-made front-engine, rear-drive chassis, which the designer said, somehow, brings the Formula 1 materials and technology within reach of the everyday motorist.
According to some specs information available, the Sports Ride has a dimension of 153.5 inches long, 67.7 inches wide, and 46.1 inches high, which is similar to those of the new Mazda MX-5 Miata, Car and Driver also noted.
Nissan IDS Concept
Another car that embodies the future car concept for Nissan. The vision of Nissan is to create vehicles that are capable of autonomous driving, which they say is already close to becoming a reality, wrote Forbes.
Some of the key engineering and design technology inside the IDS concept are carbon-fiber construction, and a compact, aerodynamic shape, with fin-like vertical fenders front and rear to help the car cut efficiently through the air.
