'PlayStation Now' games, price & review: Sony adds 105 titles, 21 from Capcom
PlayStation Blog just announced that they have added an additional 105 games to their PlayStation Now service. This brings the total to more than 250 video games since the service was first unveiled in 2014.
Sony's PlayStation Now is the game developer's cloud-based game streaming service. IGN says the service is compatible with PlayStation 3 and 4, PlayStation TV, PS Vita as well as a number of television models and Blu-Ray players.
According to the official PlayStation post, more than 21 of these new games are from Capcom. Some of the more popular Capcom games on the list include Resident Evil, Street Fighter, Mega Man, Lost Planet, Bionic Commando and Dead Rising.
Six titles are included under the popular Resident Evil game while there are four titles available for Street Fighter. Under the Classic Capcom Hits category, there is Mega Man 9 and 10.
For gamers who love role-playing games, there is Ragnarok Odyssey Ace and several Atelier titles. There are also racing games, Neogeo and even SNK classic games such as The King of Fighters '94, '95 and '96.
A complete list of all games available for subscription on PlayStation Now can be found on the site.
Examiner says subscription prices start at $19.99. Gamers can save more by opting for their 3-month subscription plan at $44.99.
Gotta Be Mobile says only half of the games are subscription-based. Gamers can also choose to rent the games for 4 hours, 3 days or 7 days.
The news site speculates that the sudden massive upload of video games may be Sony's response to Microsoft's plans of offering a backwards compatibility feature on the Xbox One. This feature will likely be available on Nov. 12 when Microsoft sends the update.
PlayStation's game streaming service is unique to Sony. Microsoft and other gaming console manufacturers have yet to offer a similar service to gamers.
Sony recently confirmed on their PlayStation France account on Twitter that the PlayStation 4 does not come with a backwards compatibility feature. This means games designed for the PlayStation 3 will not work on a PlayStation 4.
PlayStation's manufacturer has not revealed any plans to adding this feature anytime soon.
PlayStation is offering a seven-day free trial to get gamers to try Sony's streaming subscription service. This is a good way to test out the service or see if the Internet connection can handle the download before handing out cash or credit card details.
