J.K. Rowling new book: first children's novel after Harry Potter series in the works
Fans of J.K. Rowling would be happy to know that the prolific author, who also publishes under the pseudonym Robert Galbraith, is currently working on a children's book—her first since the massively successful Harry Potter series that spawned eight films in the span of 10 years, Mashable reports.
Rowling recently spoke to Stephen Mayo for the BBC Radio 2 Book Club, where she shared, "I will definitely write more novels as J. K. Rowling. Novels in the plural, I have so many ideas in my head."
The 50-year-old novelist said, "I have an idea for a children's book. Actually I have written part of a children's book that I really love so I'm definitely going to finish that."
Rowling refused to give any more details about the book's genre or whether or not it will have some element of the Harry Potter world in it, but she admitted that she's keeping her mind open to the idea, saying, "I've always said I'm not going to say never."
Rowling also spoke of the West End stage play, Harry Potter and the Cursed Child. She shared, "There were things I had in my head about what happened 19 years [after Voldemort's demise]. I personally had no desire to write it as a novel, for reasons that I think will become clear when people see the play."
Harry Potter and the Cursed Child is set 19 years after Potter finally defeats the evil Lord Voldemort who murdered his parents and many others, and follows the father-and-son journey as they try to put the past behind them. The two-part play is written by Jack Thorne and based on a story created by J.K. Rowling, Thorne, and John Tiffany.
"This play would never have happened if this particular team hadn't come to me," Rowling said of her creative team. "They're extraordinary and I think together we're going to make a really fantastic experience for people."

Meanwhile, the play isn't the only thing Potter fans can look forward to, as Entertainment Weekly reports that the 2016 prequel to the Harry Potter films, titled Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them is slowly coming to fruition, with the film's title treatment being released to the media.
Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them is a film based on Rowling's book of the same name, where magical creatures are catalogued by author Newt Scamander. The film stars Eddie Redmayne as Scamander, Steve Jobs' Katherine Waterston, singer Alison Sudol who is better known as A Fine Frenzy, Ezra Miller, Colin Farrell, Ron Perlman, and Jon Voight. The film is set to be released on Nov. 18, 2016.
