British singer and songwriter has a lot on her plate right now with being a new parent, having a new record, and a recently released single that broke records when it sold 1.1 million digital copies in its first week in the U.S., Rolling Stone reports. Moreover, Billboard reveals that the only record to sell as much as Adele's "Hello," the carrier single for her new album titled "25," is Elton John's double-sided "Candle in the Wind"/"Something About the Way You Look Tonight," which sold 3.4 million copies during its first week.

Adele is fresh-faced on the cover of Rolling Stone, in which she spoke of her private life (she took a hiatus to start a family) and the complications involved in writing the new record.

The 27-year-old singer/songwriter, born Adele Laurie Blue Adkins in Tottenham, London, shared that when she presented her new material to producer Rick Rubin, who she worked with on her hit record 21, he thought that the songs did not fit Adele. She admitted that his feedback left her "devastated" and wanting to "cry my eyes out".

"And then I just said, 'I don't really believe myself right now, so I'm not surprised you f—ing said that,'" Adele recalled. She, Rubin, and her manager ultimately agreed that they should take time to create the record, and not rush things. "That's not a way to make any kind of record. Especially when I'm trying to f—ing follow 21. So I went back to the drawing board, really."

Another disappointing experience was going into the studio with Blur frontman Damon Albarn, whom Adele considers her idol, The Guardian reports. She said that they had difficulties writing songs together and that Albarn later went on to the media to call Adele "insecure" and say negative things about her music.

"The saddest thing was that I was such a big Blur fan growing up," Adele admitted. "But it was sad, and I regret hanging out with him."

The "Hello" singer added that she could not use any of the material the two came up with, saying, "None of it was right. None of it suited my record. He said I was insecure when I'm the least insecure person I know. I was asking his opinion about my fears, about coming back with a child involved — because he has a child — and then he calls me insecure?"

Despite having more than enough material to release a record, the Grammy Award-winning songwriter decided to hold back and create material that felt right for her. She explained, "Some songs are not f—ing good enough. And I think that's where a lot of people go wrong, thinking that people will buy any old shit from you."

Adele's "25" will be released on Nov. 20.
