Woman didn't know she's pregnant until an hour before giving birth! 5 pregnancy signs you need to know & watch out for
Judy Brown from Massachusetts got the surprise of her life, and it comes in the form of another one, when she found out she was going to be a mom and had to deliver her first child just an hour after she heard the unexpected good news.
A hospital spokesperson said that the 47-year-old woman had been complaining of severe abdominal pain when she was brought to Beverly Hospital in Beverly, Massachusetts. Contrary to Brown's assumption that she might be suffering from pain due to blockage or gall stone, the medical personnel from the hospital easily ruled out any other cause, and declared that their patient is, in fact, about to go into labor, according to ABC News.
"It was a little bit scary getting into the hospital thinking something was really bad was going on," Brown told ABC News. "To understand and take in that I was pregnant and was about to go into labor ... it was very overwhelming."
The new mom gave birth to a healthy baby girl weighing 8 pounds and 2 ounces. She was accompanied by her husband Jason Brown. The couple has been together for 22 years, and was completely caught off guard by the sudden turn of events. Their approach to having children has always been "if it happens, it happens," the WCVB reported.
Considering that they have been married for a while and have not had a pregnancy, Jason and Judy did not have the slightest of idea that they were having a child. "After being married for 22 years, it really wasn't coming up being pregnant," she said. "It was not really there in my mind."
Judy and her daughter were doing well, according to a hospital spokesman. The Brown couple named their baby, Carolyn Rose, after both of their mothers.
Dr. Kimberly Gecsi, an obstetrician and gynecologist at the University Hospitals Case Medical Center in Cleveland, told ABC News that, even though, Judy's case is unusual, there are really women who are unaware of their pregnancy until they are about to give birth. "People don't know sometimes or they're in denial about it and denial can be pretty strong," she said.
