'Dr. Who' season 10 news update & rumors: 2015 Christmas special coming to US theaters; shooting to start Spring 2016?
A "Dr. Who" 2015 Christmas special will come to theaters in the U.S. for a two-night event brought by BBC and Fathom Events.
The Christmas special will air in almost 300 theaters for two nights only on Dec. 28 and 29 at 7:30 pm local time, according to Digital Spy.
The official synopsis for the special, according to Den of Geek is as follows:
"It's Christmas Day in the future and the TARDIS is parked on a snowy village street, covered in icicles, awaiting its next adventure. Time traveler River Song meets her husband's new incarnation, in the form of Peter Capaldi, for the first time this Christmas."
According to Comic Book, the "Dr. Who" special will feature bonus content including an exclusive interview with Alex Kingston who will be reprising the role of River Song, the Doctor's wife plus 15-minute behind-the-scenes "making of" with Capaldi and Steven Moffat, the show's producer.
The tickets will be on sale through the Fathom Events website and participating theater offices starting Friday (Nov. 13) in the U.S. It is not known when the special will air in the UK.
In other news, the season 10 of "Dr. Who" will have full 12 episodes, confirms Moffat who spoke up against the rumors that the show will be halved into two so that lead actor Capaldi can focus on directing other projects, according to Radio Times.
"We're making a full series. I can confirm that. I'm making a full series of 12 episodes, plus a Christmas special. I don't know when it goes out," Moffat said, as reported by the outlet. "That's up to someone else. And even if I did know—which I genuinely don't—I wouldn't be allowed to say so as I have absolutely no say in it whatsoever.
"[But] it's not being reduced in size. We're not making fewer episodes. That's all complete bunk. I can confirm that absolutely."
Capaldi also came forth and denied the rumors saying that it's not what is on "his contract."
As for when it will air, DS reports that the filming for "Dr. Who" series 10 will resume in the spring next year. Production designer Michael Pickwoad states there will be a two-part shoot which implies that series 10 may be aired on the second half of 2016.
"[Work on series 10] won't start until well into the New Year," Pickwoad said. "So it will probably be February [or] March before we start getting onto the next one."
He adds that another shoot will continue "a couple of months later" to which the site says will be on April or May.
