Android 6.0 Marshmallow update: roadmap reveals when Samsung Galaxy devices can be upgraded

A recent leaked document from smartphone manufacturer Samsung reveals when specific models of Samsung Galaxy devices will receive their new updates. The Android 6.0 Marshmallow update will be released in two phases.

PhoneArena.com notes Phase One includes the Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge+ and the Samsung Galaxy Note 5. The updates for these two devices will be released sometime in December 2015.

Owners of Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge units will receive their updates a month after that or January 2016.

The Galaxy Note 4 and Galaxy Note Edge are next in line. Updates for these models will be released in February 2016.

According to the leak, the Galaxy Alpha and S5 are also listed under Phase One. Unlike the previously mentioned models, no schedules have been listed and are simply labeled 'waiting approval,' says Phones Review.

Smartphones listed under Phase Two are also waiting for technical approval. These include the Galaxy A8, Galaxy A7, Galaxy A5, Galaxy A3, Galaxy E7 and the Galaxy E5.

The same report believes that Samsung Galaxy models not listed in these phases may receive their updates during the third phase. A note at the bottom states that Phase Three will begin "after initial testing."

According to Android Headlines, there are several major differences between the Android Lollipop 5.1.1 and the Android 6.0 Marshmallow. Most of these differences may not be noticeable.

One major improvement is the inclusion of the Doze and App Standby modes. Both of these new features are designed to help extend battery use.

There is also Google On Tap which Phone Arena says provides users with contextual search results. Another nifty feature of the new Marshmallow update is that it offers users to specify which features to enable and disable.

One lucky T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy Note 5 owner got extremely lucky. He received his update a month before the expected launch of Android Marshmallow.

In a report by TMO News, the owner used the Samsung Odin tool to reset his Note 5 to its default settings after encountering a number of problems with accessing his IMEI details. Instead of getting Android version 5.1.1, he got Android 6.

Screenshots confirm that the owner Danon received the Android Marshmallow update. Unfortunately, he is still unable to access the IMEI even after getting version 6.0.

Other than Danon, no other owners of Samsung Galaxy smartphone devices have reported receiving the update from the South Korean electronics maker.
