'Blade Runner 2' movie cast, news & update: Ryan Gosling confirmed to star alongside Harrison Ford in Ridley Scott sequel
Ryan Gosling confirmed that he will be starring in "Blade Runner 2" with Harrison Ford during an interview.
According to E! Online, working with director Denis Villeneuve and cinematographer Roger Deakins were what convinced the 35-year-old actor to take the role.
The actor confirmed in an interview with Collider that he will be starring in the highly-anticipated sequel.
"Yes, that's true!" he said when asked about "Blade Runner 2" while he was promoting for "The Nice Guys."
"It's exciting! All of those things," Gosling said. "And if I say any more there's a chip in me that will explode if I say anything else."
Director Villeneuve was hesitant to take the movie because he might screw it up. However, he accepted in the end.
"For me, it's like a monument. So when I realized one day that they put in front of me the Blade Runner project screenplay, for me I was very moved to have this honor to read the screenplay, but I accepted to do it because I felt that Hampton Fancher, Ridley Scott and Michael Green did a fantastic job on the screenplay," he said via Game Zone.
"It's a very powerful screenplay. And I felt that it made sense to me and I had the Ridley Scott blessing. But you ask if I hesitated. I hesitated massively. It took me a lot of time to say yes. Not because I didn't believe in it, because I was like 'Who am I to dare to touch that?' And at the same there's a part of me that said, 'I'm a hardcore fan, I don't want to f--- that up.'"
The website adds that the filming for "Blade Runner 2" might start in the summer of 2016.
Yahoo reports that the movie producer Ridley Scott got back Harrison Ford via the new script that he made. It was revealed that there will be four films total for the franchise.
"I got Harrison back. Because Harrison said, "Meh," and I said, "No, read this," Scott said, as reported by Daily Mail. "And I think he said, "This is the best script I've ever had." We've been working on it for a couple of years."
Scott shared that the prequel might be set in 2050.
"(The original) was 2017, so coming back it'll be 2047, roughly. As young as you can play Ryan Gosling," he said. "He's 34, but he looks 27 when he's doing his push-ups. So maybe 2050."
