New app 'Notify' from Facebook to act like Twitter on phone's lock screen; see details here [VIDEO]
The Facebook team has made another improvement once again. Just a few weeks after the release of the well-accepted Boomerang, a new GIF-oriented application, they released another application called Notify. It is aimed to deliver notifications about certain matters that have great importance to a person, from his own choice of sources.
Digital Trends reported that the app aims to make a change on how a Facebook user consumes news and updates. They do this by personalizing information that matters to the user. Then, these pieces of information will be delivered in a timely manner to your lock-screen.
Some people have compared this brand new app to the news formula of Twitter. However, while there are some similarities, this app is unique on its own.
The Facebook Newsroom detailed out some of the new app's capability. Below are the following:
1.) Notify will send users notifications and it will be displayed through their lock-screen. They can already get an idea of what the news is about just by merely reading the notifications in the lock screen. If they want to read more about it, all they have to do is just to tap through that specific notification.
2.) A user can easily share a notification through email, text, Facebook or even other social media sites.
3.) Users can save their favorite notifications they want to read later by adding it to the Saved Notifications list.
4.) The app lets a user choose which sources he wants to get a notification from. This means that he will only be notified about news he is interested in. He can choose from different categories, including movies, celebrities, health, technology, science, sport and many more.
According to BBC, the app is not yet available worldwide. As of the moment, it is exclusive to iPhone-owning Facebook users who are in the US.
There is no announcement with regard to when or if Facebook is planning to extend the availability of the app to those who are using devices with a different operating system or to those who are from other parts of the world.
According to Mark Mulligan, Midia Research's managing director, Facebook made the right move considering that the social media platform has already become the jumping off point to a user's cyber life. He pointed out that the Facebook team can improve and create better user loyalty by developing touch-points with its members.
