'Guardians of the Galaxy 2' cast, trailer, release date & updates: Karen Gillan says the film will explore more of Gamora & Nebula's sisterly relationship
One of the best things about sequels is the opportunity for writers and directors to further explore worlds first introduced in a new movie or franchise. "Guardians of the Galaxy", which came out in 2014 and has proven to be another Marvel hit with the formula of "The Avengers," as the guys over at Screen Junkies claim, is coming back with a sequel in 2017.
As per updates by the social savvy writer and director James Gunn, who often takes to his official Facebook page to keep fans in the loop for new developments in the sequel, some of the actors have already received the script for the film.
In fact, Comicbook Resources recently spoke to one of those actors who have received the script from Gunn is British actress Karen Gillan, who plays the blue assassin Nebula, a sister to Zoe Saldana's Gamora.
"I took it in my hands—because they don't send it over email; they deliver it by hand—and it was so cool," the 27-year-old actress said about the script. "I was so excited, and I ran upstairs, and I put on the soundtrack, the Awesome Mixtape 2, and then got into it. It's so good."
The model-turned-actress was quick to shave her gorgeous long red locks once she got word that she landed the role of Nebula, and Hitfix reports that she even recorded the moment for posterity.
The Daily Star reports, however, that according to Gunn, the former "Doctor Who" actress won't need to shave her head this time, as he has come up with a way for her to play Nebula without the massive hair makeover. While he didn't disclose how they would do it, it would probably involve a lot of makeup.
However, Gillan admitted, "I was mentally prepared to go through it again. It's so cool. The finished product is so cool that it's just so worth it when I see it at the end."
Another thing she's excited about? Her character's relationship with Saldana's green heroine. Gillan said, "I think what I'm really excited about it delving into the sisterly relationship between Gamora and Nebula. I think that we're going to see a little bit more of that, and it's going to be a bit more fleshed out."
Gillan is best known for her role as Amy Pond in "Doctor Who", and debuted on American television playing the lead in ABC's "Selfie", which was unfortunately cancelled after 13 episodes. She also made a brief appearance in the Andy Samberg-created HBO film, "7 Days in Hell", and will appear in Adam McKay's "The Big Short" in December.
"Guardians of the Galaxy 2" debuts in theaters on May 5, 2017.
