Khloe Kardashian and her staph infection scare; what is it & how to get it?
Khloe Kardashian looks like she really has got a lot on her plate lately. The 31-year-old American reality TV personality, host and entrepreneur is also now an author herself with the recent launch of her new book entitled "Strong Looks Better Naked."
But, it seems like the "Keeping Up with the Kardashian" star with strong personality won't be donning her birthday suit for a while as she reportedly contracted a serious staph infection, according to a report from TMZ.
Khloe got the infection after her frequent visit at the hospital where her husband and former NBA player Lamar Odom is being treated. The ex-Los Angeles Lakers team member forward has been hospitalized at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in L.A. for a month after he was found unconscious in a Nevada brothel back in October.
TMZ reported that the infection got so bad that Khloe had to cancel some of her book tour events. She has a lesion on her leg, which is very painful, along with swollen glands. She also developed a high fever and has been sweating profusely with intermittent chills.
Khloe took to Twitter confirming that she was indeed sick and taking antibiotics, but without mentioning the cause.
Staph infections are caused by staphylococcus bacteria, types of germs commonly found on the skin or in the nose of even healthy individuals, according to Mayo Clinic. Although, in most cases, the bacteria are less likely to cause any trouble or just some minor skin infections, there are also instances where staph infections can be life-threatening. The bacteria can pose serious risk if it invades deeper into the person's body and get into the bloodstream, joints, bones, lungs or heart.
Some of the skin infections that are caused by the staph bacteria include boils, which are the most common; impetigo, a contagious and painful rash; and cellulitis, an infection of the deeper layers of skin. Treatment usually involves antibiotics and drainage of the infected area, but in some cases, the staph infections were already immune to common antibiotics.
Meanwhile, despite of the staph infection, Khloe announced on Nov. 20 on her website that she will be hosting Thanksgiving dinner for her family again. "Thanksgiving is at my house this year!!! This is the second time I'm doing dinner in my home and I like that it's my tradition," she wrote in the post.
"I start preparing the day before and then, on Thanksgiving Day, I start at 7 a.m. It's just fun and I love to cook. (P.S. My famous mac & cheese recipe is going to be on my app next week!!!)."
