The Defense Ministry of Russia said that their aircraft never entered Turkey's airspace as it was over Syrian Territory during the entire flight as shown in their air traffic control record.
Russia also denied the allegations of Ankara that they shoot the Russian warplane down with two F-16 fighter jets. They said that it seems like the plane has been shot down by gunfire and not by fighter jets.
According to Express, there were contradicting reports regarding the fate of the two pilots who were flying the downed warplane. There was a news from Turkey stating that the pilots were still alive and were held captive by the rebels of Syria.
Names of Sergei Rumyantsev and Aleksandr Akhmadulin surfaced. It is said that they were the two pilot flying the Russian aircraft.
