Miranda Lambert, Blake Shelton divorce update: Lambert makes first official statement about her divorce, spends Thanksgiving back home
It's been quite a year for country singer/songwriter Miranda Lambert, whose divorce with former husband Blake Shelton was announced in July. While details about their divorce were never disclosed by the couple, CNN reported that they released a joint statement saying, "This is not the future we envisioned and it is with heavy hearts that we move forward separately. We are real people, with real lives, with real families, friends, and colleagues. Therefore, we kindly ask for privacy and compassion concerning this very personal matter."
The 32-year-old won her fifth Female Vocalist of the Year trophy at the Country Music Association Awards earlier this month, and Us Magazine reports that according to the performer, it had been a rough year for her and that she "needed a bright spot."
While the singer remained tight-lipped on her former husband's romance with "The Voice" coach Gwen Stefani, ET Online reports that five months later, Lambert is opening up about one of this year's most talked about divorce.
"Marriage is a tough business, and we gave it our best college try," Lambert told Cosmopolitan. CBS News reports that according to her, "Some of that might mean nights on my porch crying, drinking whiskey, and going, 'Man, this sucks right now.'"
Unlike Shelton, however, the singer said she isn't ready to date yet.
"I had a great relationship with an amazing man so I know what good is," she admitted. "I have a great launching pad for the future. I will never take that for granted."
Another thing Lambert is not taking for granted is the support she has received from family and friends who continue to support her throughout this sad time. She recently headed home to Texas to spend Thanksgiving with her family, sharing on Instagram a note and welcome gifts she received from her mother, People reports.
The singer also participated in the MuttNation Foundation fundraiser held in September. MuttNation Foundation is a donation-supported organization founded in 2007 by Lambert and her mother, Bev, which aims to end animal cruelty, neglect, and homelessness.
According to Bev, "Nothing makes Miranda and [me] more happy and fulfilled than seeing a rescue dog in the arms of a loving family."
Lambert is also looking to make more music as she continues to heal from the separation. She told the magazine, "I feel the sexiest when I'm in my element, which is playing music."
In fact, she said, "It doesn't really matter what I'm wearing necessarily or where I'm at, just on stage with my band playing music is sort of where I feel like I belong and that makes me feel sexy."
