Men's health: here's 5 ways to lose weight & be lean faster
No need to wait for the new year to start on your objective to lose weight. Listed here are five tips to help you lose weight and become leaner faster.
1. Eat more fruits and vegetables
Men's Health says they keep you feeling full without the added calories. Even sugary fruits such as bananas and melons can help you in losing weight.
Fruits, vegetables and legumes, such as beans, are also rich in fiber. According to Authority Nutrition, consuming more fiber-rich foods can help in digestion and keep you feeling full longer.
As a result, you'll feel less encouraged to eat snacks while reducing your belly fat.
Go for a salad at least once a day. You can add beans to add protein and make your meal healthier.
Just leave the dressings on the side as salad dressings tend to be high on calories.
2. Drink lots of water
A study conducted by Dr. Brenda Davy and a team of researchers from the Virginia Tech University found that drinking at least two cups of water before each meal can help with weight loss. Men's Health explains that the consumption of water fills you up quicker.
The nutrition publication also suggests avoiding sodas and other sugar-laden beverages and food. When you eat foods that are rich in refined sugars, your body turns all of that into fat which gets deposited in your belly area.
3. High-Intensity Interval Training
High-intensity training works. It is a surefire way to lose weight and burn fat fast says Men's Fitness.
According to Kurt Hester, National Director of Performance for TD1, "High-Intensity Interval Training is more time efficient in caloric expenditure than a traditional cardio workout. Not only will your body burn more calories during HIIT workouts but you will also continue to burn more calories and fat in the 24 hours after an HIIT workout."
4. Use weights
Hit the gym and the weights. Gaining muscle mass can help the fats stored inside your muscle cells.
According to Men's Fitness, the more muscle you have, the faster your body burns fat.
Men tend to have more muscle mass as compared to women. Esssat says this is why men lose weight more quickly.
5. Document your progress
Track what you eat and how much you eat by keeping a food journal.
Esssat advises taking a picture of yourself at once a week or every month. This way you can visually see your progress.
You can also post your notes and pictures online to motivate yourself and other people.
Avoid going on the scale. With developing muscle mass, you may end up weighing more as fat is lighter than muscle.
