Pokémon X and Y Update: 'Pokémon the Series: XY' Opening Theme Song Intro Revealed for Newest Kalos Season [Watch Video Here]
The latest Pokémon anime season has officially begun, and it featured a throwback to the original theme song of the franchise.
"Pokémon the Series: XY" made its season premiere on Jan. 18, nearly three months after the two-episode preview on Oct. 19. The season premiere not only introduced fans, who did not watch the Oct. 19 preview, to new characters but finally the opening theme song.
After 16 seasons, the Pokémon anime reverted to the original "Pokémon Theme" from the first season. The "Pokémon Theme" did receive a remake. The "Pokémon Theme" has been updated featuring a new singer, shorter, and new instrumentals.
The 30-second theme tune does feature spoilers not yet seen after the first episode. The intro featured female protagonist Serena with Fennekin as well as siblings Clemont and Bonnie with Chespin and Fennekin. Froakie is later seen taking a command by Ash Ketchum, thus showing where the three Kalos starter Pokémon will end up.
"Pokémon the Series: XY" started with the episode "Kalos, Where Dreams and Adventures Begin!" The episode featured Ash and Pikachu arriving to Lumiose City in the Kalos region with journalist Alexa, who has been accompanying the Kanto native since the Decolore Islands arc during the "Black and White" series.
Although the first episode officially premiered in the United States, viewers in Japan are already 13 episodes into the new season. Without revealing major spoilers, the 13 episodes have featured the captures of new Pokémon for the heroes and Team Rocket, a gym battle, the reveal of Clemont's gym leader status, and Sylveon, to name a few.
