Adele tour ticket buyers claim personal data breached; will it result to identity theft?
The BBC reported that the fans of Adele who bought tickets for the singer's tour said they were able to see credit card and important personal details of other customers. Fans are scared that this situation of personal data breached might lead to personal data theft.
On Tuesday morning, the members of Adele.com were given the chance to buy advance tickets for Adele's tour. A lot of her fans took advantage of it and bought their tickets in advance to make sure they will get it before it gets sold out.
Upon ordering, a number of buyers complained how much error they experienced. Worse, many of them were able to see the credit card and personal details of other buyers. Even when they saw others' details, they were still concerned since their information might have been shown to the other buyers as well.
According to StarrFM Online, Kiran Farmah, a ticket buyer from Birmingham said that she was on the process of buying her tickets for Adele's tour when the screen showed her the details of another buyer for Glasgow shows.
Another ticket buyer named Michael Crow said that the same thing happened to him as well. He got the wrong tickets and worse, the names and addresses stated in the tickets belong to other people whom he doesn't even know.
Songkick, the ticketing company, gave their explanation after hearing these complaints and concerns, the Huffington Post said.
The ticketing company said that the error that made the information of buyers appear on the screen of another buyer was caused by the extreme load on their website.
They reassured that the information of their buyers are protected and they do not let anyone access it for any reason. They also said that their company is not retaining these pieces of information. It was merely an error that some information were retained and shown to other customers.
It will be Adele's first tour since the year 2011. Her 2011 tour was cut off short because the doctors discovered that the singer had a hemorrhage on her vocal cord that needed an immediate surgery.
This forthcoming tour of Adele is record-breaking considering the high demand for tickets. The site Adele.com urges the ticket purchasers not to sell their ticket to secondary ticketing sites.
Selling of tickets to other interested people is common in sold-out concerts and shows. It is legal in the United Kingdom as well. However, to avoid having ripped-off fans and to prevent consternation among the real fans, the site says that they won't tolerate the resale of tickets.
