'Dancing with the Stars' cast Maksim Chmerkovskiy & Peta Murgatroyd are officially engaged; see their love story here!
It's a match made in dance heaven for "Dancing with the Stars" pro dancer Maksim Chmerkovskiy and his now fiance, Peta Murgatroyd, to whom he proposed on Saturday during a performance of "Sway: A Dance Trilogy" at the Olympia Theater in Miami, CNN reports.
The 35-year-old Ukrainian dancer first appeared on ABC's "Dancing With the Stars" season 2 with actress Tia Carrere and went on to win third place during the show's fourth and tenth seasons with partners boxer Laila Ali and TV personality Erin Andrews, respectively. Chmerkovskiy also placed second during the show's second season with Spice Girl turned host Melanie Brown and 12th season with actress Kirstie Alley. He won the competition during the show's 18th season, with ice skater and Olympic champion Meryl Davis.
Murgatroyd is also a "DWTS" star, appearing in the show's 13th to 21st season. She claimed the championship with partner, football pro Donald Driver on the show's 14th season. She was supposed to perform in DWTS' 21st season but had to take a leave due to an ankle injury. She did, however, appear in the semi-finals to perform a salsa trio with Backstreet Boys' Nick Carter and Sharna Burgess.
People reports that Chmerkovskiy told Murgatroyd during his proposal, "I'm in love with you, and I will be in love with you for the rest of my life."
Chmerkovskiy had gotten engaged to fellow DWTS dance pro Karina Smirnoff in 2008, but the pair split in 2009. Us Weekly reports that the 29-year-old New Zealand native Murgatroyd first dated Chmerkovskiy in 2012 and 2013 for 10 months before rekindling their romance earlier this year.
A source told Us Weekly in May, "They're fully back together. He has been working hard to really be a good guy to her and show her that he's changed."
Another source told People, "Peta is [Chmerkovskiy's] girl and he's never stopped wanting to be around her."
Chmerkovskiy's younger brother and DWTS co-star Valentin took to Instagram to share his message to the newly engaged couple, snapping a photo and writing, "I love the two of you with all my heart."
To Murgatroyd, he wrote, "You have my brothers loyalty, heart. his one and only for the rest of his life. You're family now and that makes you my sister, the second most important woman in my life. what's mine is yours. Forever and always."
No wedding plans have been made public, but the two have been spotted all smiles out and about Miami, so stay tuned for more news on this up and coming new family.
