'The Hunger Games' prequel in the works without Katniss? Lionsgate plans to continue the franchise
There is no doubt that the fans of the "Hunger Games" are quite sad about the fact that the franchise has finally come to an end. "Mockingjay Part 2" is the last of the four movies planned to release by Lionsgate. However, it seems like they are planning and preparing for another shot of "Hunger Games." This time, it seems like they are going to take Katniss out of the light and offer prequels to the fans, according to the Variety.
Michael Burns, the Vice Chairman of Lionsgate, said during the UBS Global Media and Communications Conference in New York on Tuesday that their pride "Hunger Games" franchise will live on and that the studio is currently preparing for its prequels.
The question is why prequels and not sequels? Sure, prequels can also be very interesting. Other movie franchises have already done that as well. However, how about Katniss? Katniss has only been noticed or only played the big role in their district and in the capital since she volunteered to be a substitute for her sister to join the Hunger Games.
According to Vanity Fair, "Mockingjay Part 2," the final installment, is the weakest box office the four installments. It is possible that Mockingjay suffered from the fact that the story has been split into two movies.
On the other hand, Burns think that it is because of the lack of exciting carnage despite the fact that there were a lot of carnage. He believes that the younger fans—pre-teens, teens and those who are in their early twenties - who are the primary fans of the franchise seem to be missing the Hunger Games—an aspect that both the part 1 and part 2 of "Mockingjay" lack.
The installment has been first known for its deadly match of the chosen ones inside the arena. Since Katniss has succeeded in defeating President Coin who wants to conduct a Hunger Games in the capital and President Snow who is responsible for the previous annual Hunger Games, it is expected that there won't be any match in the arena if the story pushes forward. This is why Lionsgate is considering to tackle the past - to let the audience see more matches in the deadly arena, Yahoo reported.
After all, it would be very exciting to see how Finnick, Johanna or even Haymitch got their victory as the Hunger Games survivor of their time.
What do you think about this? Would you love to see Hunger Games prequels or would you rather see Katniss and no arena?
