'Street Fighter 5' Beta, Characters, Release Date & Update: Game Coming to SteamOS With Full Steam Controller Support
Street Fighter 5 was already confirmed to make its way to SteamOS. The latest installment of this widely-popular fighting game will support the Linux-based operating system developed by Valve Corporation, as well as the Steam Controller, Capcom announced Thursday, Dec 17.
"Hey everyone. I'm excited to announce that Street Fighter V will be officially supporting Steam OS! We are working closely with Valve on this endeavor, and will have more details to announce in the near future, so stay tuned for updates," Capcom wrote on its "Street Fighter" official group blog.
"Street Fighter V will also support the Steam controller, and you'll be able to try that out right away during the upcoming beta test that takes place from December 18~20. See you all online!" Capcom added.
Capcom and Sony Computer Entertainment execs have officially confirmed during the PlayStation Experience early on December that the Street Fighter 5 will be an exclusive title for both PlayStation 4 and Windows PC and it will be capable of cross-platform play, according to Polygon.
This has ended some previous speculations that a Street Fighter game will be released on Xbox One. Another gaming console, however, will also be given access to the Capcom game and it will be Valve Corporation's own gaming computer, the Steam Machine, says an article from PC Mag Asia.
Meanwhile, the third and latest beta testing for "Street Fighter V" was already launched and available for both PS4 and Windows PC platform. Initially, the beta will commence with just six characters, namely Ryu, Birdie, Cammy, Necalli, Nash, and Laura.
But, as the third beta go along this weekend, other characters, such as Dhalsim and Zangief, will be joining the crew, wrote Destructoid. And, players can also expect some surprise addition over the course of the beta tests.
This beta will also be capable of third-party controller support like the steam controller, and players can have access to ranked matches, casual matches, training, the Capcom Fighters Network, battle settings and other options.
And, for those who would want to join the mix and have a first taste of the new brawling game, the beta will run this weekend, from Dec. 18 until Dec. 20. It will start Friday at 12:01 AM PT and won't conclude until 10 PM PT on Sunday. As for the actual release date of the Street Fighter V for both the PlayStation 4 and Windows PC, it was confirmed that the Capcom game will be available on Feb. 16, 2016, says Engadget.
