'Game of Thrones' Season 6 Rumors, Cast News, Spoilers & Update: Blu-Ray DVD Features 20-Minute Animated Video for Fans to Enjoy

It's going to be one hell of a happy New Year for "Game of Thrones" fans, as just before the highly anticipated sixth season arrives, HBO will be releasing the Season 5 Blu-Ray box set, which will include a 20-minute animated film, Movie Pilot reports.

The animated film tells the "Dance of Dragons" story, an epic war between two Targaryens' that occurred prior to the events in "Game of Thrones," back when they still ruled all seven kingdoms. Dragons were thriving during the time, and the Targaryen siblings would use them to engage in battle to win the throne.

According to Vanity Fair, the special feature will be narrated by none other than Pedro Pascal’s character, Oberyn Martell, who was killed off back in season 4. That doesn't mean they can no longer utilize his amazing vocals, though. "Dance of Dragons" will also feature voices of "Game of Thrones" characters Joffrey Baratheon (Jack Gleeson), Viserys Targaryen (Harry Lloyd), Robert Baratheon (Mark Addy), Catelyn Stark (Michelle Fairley), and Shireen Baratheon (Kerry Ingram).

"Dance of Dragons" is written by "Game of Thrones" writer Dave Hill and produced by Lindeman & Associates' Adam Vadnais.

Hill told IGN, "When HBO and Adam Vadnais broached the idea of adapting The Dance of Dragons for the Blu-ray special features, I was thrilled. I loved the story as George had written it and felt honored to help bring an animated version to the fans."

"Every year I try to keep the scripts worthy of the incredible work that I know to expect from Adam and his team. This year, more so than ever, they've set the bar astronomically high with the Dance of Dragons featurette," Hill explained. "Winter will eventually come, but not the day that Adam and his team fail to amaze me."

Meanwhile, the fifth season of "Game of Thrones" left many shocked and disturbed when Sansa Stark was raped during her wedding night in the episode "Unbowed, Unbent, Unbroken". "Game of Thrones" director Jeremy Podeswa told Vanity Fair that "We are aware ahead of time that it was going to be disturbing, but we did not expect there would be people in Congress talking about it."

"It was a difficult and brutal scene and we knew it was going to be challenging for the audience," Podeswa during a briefing at Fox Studios Australia. "But it was very important to us in the execution that it would not be exploited in any way. To be fair, the criticism was the notion of it, not the execution."

"It was handled as sensitively as it could possibly be; you hardly see anything," he defended their creative decisions regarding the episode. Nonetheless, Podeswa admitted that the producers "did not want to be too overly influenced by that [criticism] but they did absorb and take it in and it did influence them in a way."

"Game of Thrones" season 5 Blu-ray box set will arrive on March 15, 2016.
