'Doctor Strange' Release Date, Cast News & Update: New Photos of Benedict Cumberbatch's Character Revealed; Mads Mikkelsen to Play Villain [PHOTO]
Photos of Benedict Cumberbatch as Doctor Stephen Vincent Strange have come out, and the English actor has never looked more mystical. Peek at the photo below:
The photos were exclusively released by Entertainment Weekly plus a first look on Cumberbatch's cover page as surgeon-turned-sorcerer Dr. Strange in the outlet's magazine that is due to be released in November 2016.
According to the outlet, the filming started in November and is still ongoing and won't be finished until March next year. Additionally, Cumberbatch shared that he used the photoshoot as a way to practice his moves and poses as a spell-caster.
"I'm still in the infancy of learning all that. It was like, okay, I've got to keep throwing these poses, these spells, these rune-casting things, everything he does physically. I'm thinking, there's going to be a huge amount of speculation and intrigue over the positioning of that finger as opposed to it being there, or there," he said. "And I'm still working on that. We haven't played any of those scenes yet. I felt really self-conscious. But, then, by the end, it was great. It's like anything, you just have to experiment."
The production is still in its early stages and the parts of several stars that are in the film aren't known yet. Cumberbatch will be joined by Rachel McAdams, Tilda Swinton (who will play the Ancient One), Chiwetel Ejiofor and Mads Mikkelsen who was confirmed to be part of the cast on August.
It has been recently known that Mikkelsen will be playing the role of the villain. Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige did the revelation.
"Mads' character is a sorcerer who breaks off into his own sect," Feige said. "[He] believes that the Ancient One is just protecting her own power base and that the world may be better off if we were to allow some of these other things through."
Mikkelsen's character is still unnamed said executive producer Stephen Broussard.
"I've seen lots of names thrown around," he said as reported by EW. "No one has quite picked the name that we've chosen for him. It would be fun to conceal that, if we can."
As for McAdams' role whose character is unnamed, Feige explained that she will have an important role in the movie and in Strange's life.
"[She is] a fellow surgeon that has a history with Strange and is his sort of lynchpin to his old life, once he steps into the role of a sorcerer. She is someone he connects with at the beginning, and reconnects with, and helps anchor his humanity," he told EW.
"Doctor Strange" will be in US theaters on Nov. 4, 2016.
