Holly Holm Next Fight: Champ Taking on 'Possible' Fight Before Ronda Rousey Rematch
The UFC Women's bantamweight champion Holly Holm may take on another opponent before her rematch with former title holder, Ronda Rousey.
According to the Los Angeles Times, UFC President Dana White extended the Australian champion's fighting contract and the organization is looking to establish Holm's next fight.
A couple of weeks ago, despite Holm's intention to stay active and fight as soon as possible, White revealed that her next fight will be against Rousey. The former undefeated champion is currently serving a six month's suspension following her brutal lost to the new title holder, Holm.
Meanwhile, the development of the rematch is getting vague as White admitted that they still do not know what they are going to do during a phone interview with LA Times. He also mentioned that he has yet to discuss any business plan with Rousey. This could be an indication that "Holm vs Rousey 2" may not happen until the third quarter of this year as the current champion will go up against another opponent.
In her recent interview with SB Nation's MMA Mania, Holm said she doesn't want to wait for the rematch if it means not fighting for a few months. She loves to fight Rousey again but there is still no announcement from the organization with regard to it. She also did not hear anything from Rousey's camp if they want the rematch.
"I'm not going anywhere, but I will be fighting, hopefully sooner than later. I just don't want to wait around for things if they are not set in stone. A lot of people have been talking about the rematch, but nobody knows for sure," the champion explained.
"I haven't even heard from Ronda if she wants it yet or not or if she's occupied with other things right now. That's the hardest thing for me. If I knew something was set in stone, then maybe I would think about it a little more. I just don't want to wait around for something that may not happen."
In a report by Fox Sports, UFC might announce Holm's next fight this week. Her manager Lenny Fresquez claimed that the UFC already has a plan for Holm's next fights.
Nevertheless, Fresquez said that he is not in the position to discuss the details of the contract. He mentioned that Holm's team is happy with the new UFC deal and they are looking forward for the organization to build the champion as the next superstar.
