‘DC Universe Online’ Release Dates for Xbox One, PS4 & PC -- Everything You Need to Know About 'DCUO'
To mark the fifth anniversary of "DC Universe Online," its developer Daybreak Games has announced several new updates, including making the game available to Xbox One.
Inquisitr said the video game allows players to create their own unique superhero or villain, selecting the character's powers and weapons. Although the PvE mode does not allow gamers to become Superman or Lex Luthor, a report by Comics Alliance stated that these identifiable DC characters can be used as mentors.
According to Cinema Blend, "DC Universe Online" or "DCUO" was similar to the game "Champions Online" where players can design and build their own superhero or villain. What made "DCUO" different from the competition was the inclusion of easily identifiable environments from the comics such as Gotham and Metropolis.
The announcement was made via a livestream broadcast made by Kinda Funny Games with a more detailed list published on the DC Universe Online website.
Comic Book Resources recently conducted an interview with Creative Director S.J. Mueller. The interview revealed how the game developer is planning to celebrate this special milestone and how the new changes will affect the game.
"DCUO" was initially released for the PlayStation 3 and PC and later introduced for the PlayStation 4. In just a few more months, Xbox One owners will also get a chance to play the game.
On the week of Jan. 25, cross play will also be offered, allowing "DCUO" gamers on the PlayStation 4 and PC platforms to play against each other. No word yet on whether the same feature will be offered to Xbox One gamers.
The official "DCUO" website also announced that Episode 21 will be released next month. This episode marks the introduction of characters from the "Legends of Tomorrow" television storyline including Hawkman, Hawkgirl, Atom and Captain Cold.
Gamers can also expect a slew of new storylines to be released. Kotaku believes that Daybreak Games will be launching new content more regularly this year.
Although the game is free-to-play, Comics Alliance said access to the episodes and PvP items will be limited to paying subscribers. This means only those with a subscription will be able to access the game's special features.
To mark the game's fifth year online, Daybreak Games has also produced a number of special gifts such as the Daybreak Emblem and the DC Bombshell Poster. Players can access and make use of these items simply by logging in anytime until the end of the month.
