Circus-Inspired Yoga: Newest Fitness Trend
Some people may be familiar of the newest fitness trend today that slowly gaining popularity among yogis. It is a circus-inspired yoga that requires anyone that would like to try it to do some stunts. It may sound a bit dangerous but, according to fitness trainers, it is not.
However, it requires someone to use their core strength, flexibility and balance. It definitely does not sound easy, but it is quite rewarding according to the practitioners.
In a report by The National Post, fitness trainer Andralyn Zayn and the rest of the Defying Fitness team travel across Canada and some parts of the world to showcase their circus-inspired physical fitness program to improve physical health and acrobatic skills.
The 32-year-old fitness trainer likes to call their new style of fitness as "the next yoga." She said that their training is quite similar with other popular exercise techniques such as pole dancing, belly dancing, CrossFit and parkour. Zayn stated that they were basically just looking for other ways of fitness regimen for people to stay healthy without boring themselves at their regular gym exercise.
According to Zayn's co-trainer, Marissa Gough, their goal is to fix the incorrect exercise methods that people learned from the Internet. She said that there are people out there with no official training who teach people how to do things that may be harmful to them.
Their team provides training and certifications for participants; however, they said that there will be a continuing education with regard to the training they teach, especially for the people who are issued with Defying Fitness certificates.
According to a report by Marina Times, there are already a few circus-inspired training today such as the aerial yoga, aerial hoop and aerial silk.
To do aerial yoga, the participants must have a soft fabric hammock, which they will use to hang themselves into the air while doing handstands and headstands. Hammocks are also use to support their legs when they need to extend them.
Aerial hoop is also being called as Lyra in the fitness world. This method involves dancing and several fitness moves while being suspended in the air. It does sound dangerous but, according an aerial fitness instructor, Karri Becker, it is one of the most fun things to do.
Another circus-inspired yoga is the aerial silk. Yogis use ribbon or curtain to climb, pose and spin all throughout the session.
These new form of yoga is certainly interesting and its popularity is increasing amongst young people.
