'Alien: Covenant' Trailer & Release Date: Film Will Have a 'Pretty Hard' R Rating, Says Ridley Scott -- What We Know So Far [Rumors]
Ridley Scott's "Alien" talks about the highly aggressive extraterrestrial creature that stalks and kills the crew of a spaceship. The film was critically acclaimed and was a box office hit. Due to its success, the director made names in the "Alien" films.
After years of waiting, Scott is back to the alien world with "Alien: Covenant." According to ComingSoon.net, the award-winning director is in Australia to begin the production. Scott just won a Golden Globe award for his sci-fi film "The Martian" and he shared few details on his return to the alien world backstage.
"I always remember walking down the edge in Saint Louis when we were previewing [Alien]," Scott recalled. "I couldn't sit through the film one more time. I walked down the edge into the kitchen scene when John Hurt started to bring up his breakfast. That moment, I realized how pretty scary the film was... I felt a sense of responsibility that I had gone too far because it was extreme. I'm going to try and do that again this year, but much worse."
It's not surprising for Scott to target the R rating given the franchise's history. Of the seven "Alien Films," only one did not receive an R rating. Paul W.S. Anderson's "Alien vs Predator" received a PG-13 rating.
AVP Galaxy suggested that "Prometheus" received an R classification in the U.S. for the scene which Noomi Rapace's character Elizabeth Shaw removed the Trilobite from herself. When it was released, the chest burn scene was notorious that it caused people to vomit and leave the screen. Many are looking forward to seeing a similar scene in "Alien: Covenant."
So what to expect in "Alien: Covenant?"
"Alien: Covenant" is the second chapter in a prequel trilogy that began with "Prometheus." Per Indie Wire, when the title of the film was announced they also released an official synopsis and even made a specific mention of Michael Fassbender's character David, but there was no Rapace's Shaw.
There were speculations that the "Mission: Impossible - Rogue Nation" star Rebecca Ferguson was eyed for the female lead, which sparks the rumors that Rapace is out. However, at the moment, nothing is confirmed about the female lead.
Meanwhile, based on their synopsis, the film is directly connected to Scott's 1979 seminal work. It tells the story of a crew who are heading to a far away planet in the galaxy. The crew of the colony ship "Covenant" discovered an uncharted paradise that later on turned to be a dark and dangerous world -- the said paradise was inhabited by the synthetic David, the lone survivor of the doomed Prometheus expedition.
"Alien: Covenant" premieres on Oct. 6, 2017.
