Earlier this week, Nintendo officially announced the upcoming release of "Minecraft: Story Mode" for the Wii U on Jan. 21.

Nintendo's VP of publisher & developer relations Steve Singer and Telltale Games CEO Kevin Bruner have expressed their enthusiasm over the release of the game's first episode to the Wii U.

Singer is confident in Telltale Games' ability to produce games with gripping content and is thrilled in the impending launch of Minecraft for the Nintendo console. Bruner has mirrored the vice president's excitement.

"Working with Nintendo, we're tremendously excited to be bringing our unique style of storytelling to Wii U for the first time, and we couldn't be happier to be kicking things off with a series like 'Minecraft: Story Mode' that allows players of all ages to craft their own adventure across the Minecraft universe," Bruner stated during Nintendo's press release.

Tech Times says Telltale is also the same developer behind popular games such as "The Walking Dead" and "Tales from the Borderlands." Compared to these games, however, "Minecraft: Story Mode" is safer for kids to play as it does not feature gory ways on how the characters die.

According to Cinema Blend, players will get to play Jesse, a male or female character who journeys through the Overworld, Nether, End, and beyond. Jesse's pet pig will also be coming along for the ride.

Up to this point, the game has been offered on several platforms namely: PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, Xbox 360, Xbox One and the PC. Engadget says Telltales has already released all five episodes for these platforms.

For Wii U users, however, the movie news and reviews site says "The Order of the Stone" will be the only episode available for download on the Nintendo platform on the 21st. Subsequent episodes will be released at a later time.

Players can download each episode for $4.99 at the Nintendo eShop. A $19.99 Season Pass can also be purchased by players who may wish to download episodes 2 through 5 once they become available.

Gamespot says the Wii U's gamepad will also be offering some interesting features for 'Minecraft: Story Mode' players. Besides being able to manipulate the character's movement, the controller will also allow players to move between different screens.

Nintendo has pulled out all the stops with its selection of voice talents for the game. Patton Oswalt and Catherine Taber will be the voices behind the male and female Jesse, respectively.

Other big names in the game include Brian Posehn, Scott Porter, and Corey Feldman.
