'Star Wars' Fan Theory: This is Rey's True Nature
Much like the first installments of the two earlier trilogies, Episode VII of the current triumvirate of "Star Wars" films was banking on the same formula of piquing the interest of moviegoers by creating a mystery around the character of the main antagonist.
Fans were fuddled by the enigmatic persona of Luke Skywalker in "Star Wars: A New Hope" back in the '70s and were puzzled yet again with the introduction of Anakin Skywalker's character in Episode I. And with J.J. Abrams cleverly taking the same page out of the effective playbook, fans were left wondering anew and the guessing game ensued.
The character of "Star Wars: The Force Awakens" heroine Rey, played by English actress Daisy Ridley, is also shrouded in mystery and some of the more popular fan theories claim that she might be Luke's daughter while others assert that she was of Han Solo's and Princess Leia's. There are also those who speculate that she could be from Obi-Wan, or she might just be from some ordinary lineage in Jakku. But, another angle has surfaced recently with one fan theory claiming that she was simply Anakin Skywalker's reincarnated spirit.
According to this theory from 9gag, Rey is the reincarnated Anakin that returned to make amends for his past wrongdoings. And one proof to this is the fact that the lightsaber called on her and flashback scenes occurred because she was the rightful owner.
"Given Anakin's well-known hatred of sand, the theory suggests that Rey's time spent alone on a sandy planet like Jakku is a literal purgatory for Anakin," wrote The Mary Sue. "Other 'evidence' includes Rey's resemblance to Shmi Skywalker, and the fact that, like Anakin, she's loyal, family-oriented, and a preternaturally skilled pilot."
The theory also supposes that the reincarnation was a result of Anakin's efforts to try to cheat death in order to save the love of his life, Padme. It went on to say that Anakin, which is "The Chosen One," has been reincarnated many times and ending up as Rey is some sort of a punishment for his crimes in the past.
"This also explains why she is so natural powerful and in tune with the force and why she exhibits skills that is so in line with who Anakin Skywalker was before his fall to the dark side," the fan wrote for his theory.
