It's "National Cheese Day" and what better way to celebrate than with a classic childhood recipe of grilled cheese, but with a Latin twist?

Latina states that grilled cheese sandwiches have been comforting both children and adults for years. As time went by, the number of variations for the beloved sandwich changed too.

The preparation to make the sandwich hasn't really changed all that  much, as the basic ingredients have not changed during the dish's rich history.

Latin Kitchen  states that food goers will still need bread, cheese and butter as the core ingredients for the signature sandwich.

Chefs must remember not to overcook or take shortcuts in cooking these sandwiches as the results will show. As with any endeavor, patience and dedication are always rewarded.

With that said, here are some variations to try to spice it up a bit.

Avocado Grilled Cheese: This style of grilled cheese adds thick Texas style bread as well as an avocado sauce to the recipe. To add more kick to the sandwich, simply use Queso Oaxaca instead of the usual cheese.

Three Cheese Sandwich: Now this type of grilled cheese adds three different types of cheese to the sandwich. By adding Oaxacan, Manchego and Queso Fresco, the sandwich will taste uniquely Latino and will be perfect with a tomato soup.

Grilled Jalapeno Cheddar and Chorizo Sandwich: It's hard to argue with the uniquely Latino feel of Jalapeno Cheddar and Chorizo when added to a grilled cheese. The spiciness of the sandwich will completely depend on the cook as both ingredients can range from mild to extra spicy.

Spicy Mushroom Torta with Queso Quesadilla: A much healthier addition to the grilled cheese family, adding in spicy Spanish mushrooms and using a soft Torta bread is a great combination for foodies who are looking for an alternative.

Bacon Guacamole Grilled Cheese: Adding bacon is always a tasty treat. Adding some Guacamole to the sandwich gives it the Latino kick it needs. Eaters beware though, one might not be enough.

In the end, it's really up to the chef on how he or she wants to prepare the sandwich itself. However, these alternative recipes will hopefully give whoever eats them a tasty experience.
