Britax Recalled 71,000 Infant Car Seats Over Handles That Break, Crack
Britax has just recalled over 71,000 infant car seats because of defective handles that can break or crack.
On Thursday, the United States Consumer Product Safety Commission has announced the recalling of more than 71,000 Britax-manufactured infant car seats, USA Today reported. "The car seat carry handle can crack and break allowing the seat to fall unexpectedly, posing a risk of injury to the infant," the notice read.
Meaning, the recall is affecting the B-Safe 35 as well as the B-Safe 35 Elite models. These models were manufactured between Oct. 1, 2014 and July 1, 2015. Also, those manufactured between April 2010 and December 2012, which are sold in the U.S. and Canada, that totaled about 60,000 for both Britax B-Ready strollers and B-Ready replacement top seats are included.
USA Today also revealed that the company has received 74 reports of handles that develop fractures, break and/or cracks while in use. This included the report in which an infant got a bump on the head when the carrier fell to the ground.
However, the Britax website stated that the recall of the product does "not affect the safety performance of the seat when used in a motor vehicle. It is safe for consumers to continue to use their car seat when secured in a vehicle or on a stroller."
Britax also further explained that "if the cracks lead to the handle breaking, then the seat could be dropped, causing potential injury to the infant," Inquisitr shared.
So, to determine if your particular car seat is affected by this recall, customers are urged to visit the Britax recall website and enter their model number and product name. Also, the website shows a diagram to assist the consumers find where the said information is placed on their car seats as well as travel systems.
Nonetheless, all those customers who took the necessary steps to register their acquired products from the company -- after buying them, that is -- will automatically receive a free repair kit from Britax.
It did not take very long for the customers to comment on the recall announcement especially when it was posted on Facebook. However, the company has already prepared responses for the feedback.
