'Supernatural' Season 11 Trailer, Spoilers, News & Update: Castiel Makes Deal with Lucifer; Will Dean Save Him?
The season 11 midseason premiere of Supernatural started with Lucifer (played by Mark Pellegrino) trying to coax Sam Winchester (played by Jared Padalecki) into becoming his vessel whilst both are trapped in the Cage in the Underworld.
Lucifer bargains with Sam that in order to defeat the Darkness (played by Emily Swallow), he should be willing to sacrifice himself before trying to save himself and his brother, Dean Winchester (played by Jensen Ackles). When Dean accompanied by Castiel (played by Misha Collins) came to the rescue, Castiel accepted Lucifer's offer, Design Trend reports.
What will happen to Castiel now that he's Lucifer's vessel and will Dean be able to save the former archangel? According to Movie News Guide, with Lucifer free from the Cage, he may resume his plans of destroying the world.
Executive producer and writer Jeremy Carver reveals that Lucifer's antics on the brothers won't have the same effect as it did in the past.
"I think ultimately, we've seen each brother come around to admitting the truth. I don't see necessarily a fracture in the relationship coming. I think there's real differences of opinion based on real vulnerabilities that each brother is willing to share with the other..." Carver said, as reported by the outlet. "It's a bit more of, at least for the first part of the second half of the season, a bit more of a united front than we've seen, which we like."
The second half of season 11 will showcase what Carver is talking about. For now, how Dean and Sam will deal with the events will be revealed in the upcoming episodes.
There have been characters in the past that have been sent to the cage and the show hasn't been able to explain what happened to them. The most notable ones are Michael and a third Winchester, Adam. Carver states that new information about them will surface but they won't be making an appearance in the show.
"We make mention of it in the coming episode, giving folks a bit of an update on what's been going on in the cage. It's not the biggest mention and the focus really is in the Lucifer-Sam part of it but there is some mention of it," he explained.
"Supernatural" airs on Wednesdays at the CW at 9 p.m. EST.
