Cleveland Cavaliers 2016: David Blatt Fired Opens Door to Kevin Love Trade

Having the best player on the planet on your team is every basketball head coach's dream. But as some of LeBron James' previous coaches have already figured out, it could also prove to be a double-edged sword that could cut short one's NBA tenure as there isn't much leeway for failure.

A lot of people were caught off guard by the move of the Cleveland Cavaliers' front office to part ways with David Blatt who steered the team towards a finals appearance in the 2014 to 2015 season. While they failed to complete their mission against a formidable foe in Steph Curry-led Golden State Warriors, it seems like the Cavs is on their way to a shot at redemption topping the Eastern Conference so far this season.

But, that wasn't enough for Blatt to secure his job as the Cav's main guy on the sidelines. Reports have now surfaced that forward Kevin Love's stint with the Ohio-based franchise may be as fickle as his former head coach's.

"There's been speculation for weeks that the Cavaliers might look to trade Love, since it appears that he cannot function effectively with Kyrie Irving, and they're not trading Kyrie Irving," according to CBS Sports. "Love has gotten three fewer possessions per game since Irving returned, according to Synergy Sports, which doesn't sound like a lot but is actually substantial, and his points per possession have dropped from 0.991 to 0.883, which again, is significant."

The speculations that Love could be on the move were not mere rumors from some sports media outlets. Apparently, even his own teammates were already having some inkling on it, according to ESPN's Brian Windhorst.

"How surprised were Cavs players today? When team meeting was called, some players speculated Kevin Love had been traded," he posted on his Twitter account.

On Jan. 18, the Warriors handed the team one of its worst home court loss in the LeBron James era with a 98-132 defeat. Two games after, it was the Chicago Bulls turn to humiliate the Cavs, again on their home turf.

Another report from the Inquisitr also cited the possibility that Cavs big man Timofey Mozgov could also be shipped out in the coming days alongside the superstar forward. While there are no concrete details regarding the looming trade as of yet, the firing of Blatt could be a good indication that the Cavs management are looking for some change. And from the looks of it, any player from the roster not named LeBron is not safe.
