'Fast and Furious 8' Release Date & Trailer: Crew Heading to Iceland For Explosive Shoots in April
"Fast and Furious 8" is set to begin production for the franchise's latest installment and reports have it that the cast and crew will be flying to Iceland in April.
Movie Web reported that the mayor of Akranes in Iceland, Regina Asvaldsdottir, made the confirmation in the local newspapers. The report also claimed that the crew will be setting up a big explosive scene, one that has never been done in the country by a film crew before.
Comic Book reported that the "Fast 8" crew has chosen the Cement Fields as its ideal location and some of the locals are gearing up their stores to supply the production with its goods and services. It is not the first time the locals are welcoming movie people to their fishing town in recent years as the Netflix TV show "Sense8" also filmed some scenes in Akranes before, per Empire Online. "Sense8" launched on the streaming site in early 2015.
Iceland Travel cited that Akranes is primarily a fishing village. However, its economy also relies on the cement plant and the aluminum smelting plant that have been servicing the town since the 1950s. There are only 6,550 locals living in the town and it is located north of the capital Reykjavík.
Cinema Blend reported that the movie might also delve into Icelandic history as they have done in the previous installments. However, in addition to the European country, the producers are also hoping to get permission to film in Cuba. In fact, Cuba was one of the original locations the film's scouts had been looking at in the pre-production phase.
Meanwhile, "Fast and Furious 8" star Vin Diesel recently shared the first poster for the movie and confirmed that it will be coming to theaters in April 2017.
Expected to be back to join Diesel are Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson, Jason Statham, Tyrese Gibson, Michelle Rodriguez and Ludacris. However, fans of the movie should also expect that Paul Walker's presence will still be represented even after his death in 2013.
Diesel was always vocal about this in the interviews. "Paul used to say that ['Fast & Furious'] 8 was guaranteed and, in some ways, when your brother guarantees something, you have to make sure it comes to pass," the actor said, via MTV. "So, if fate has it - fate, F8 - then you'll get it. 'Furious 7′ was for Paul; 8 is from Paul.'"
