'Yakuza 6' Release Date & Trailer: Gameplay Demo Revealed; Better Graphics on PS4 [Video]
Fans will have to wait for the release of "Yakuza 6" in North America (it's only currently slated for Japanese releases), but here's something to keep gamers satiated: 11 minutes worth of gameplay for the PlayStation 4 exclusive, as per Gamespot.
Series director Toshihiro Nagoshi debuted the footage via live stream, showing the latest game's features, including more enemies in combat for a more action-packed game.
For those who already purchased a remake of the first "Yakuza" game called Yakuza Kiwami, they can get instant access to a demo of "Yakuza 6" beginning tomorrow. For the full game, however, it seems that North American fans will have to wait for longer. "Yakuza 5" was released three years later in December in western countries, so it looks like a long wait for the sixth iteration of the game.
According to Eurogamer, "Yakuza 6" will feature Japanese director and actor Takeshi 'Beat' Kitano in a supporting role in the game, but was not featured in the 11-minute gameplay demo.
"Yakuza 6" was first announced at the Tokyo Game Show 2015's Sony conference, revealing that the game was exclusively for PlayStation 4 and will be available this autumn.
"I work on the script, so I start by thinking about what Kiryu is doing now, rather than which city he is in. Locations and things like that work themselves out later. We depict Kiryu's present-day life in most of the games, and in the new game we've released in Japan, Yakuza Zero, we explore his past," Yakuza producer Masayoshi Yokoyama explained to IGN of the process in creating the game. "We also go to other time periods in other games, so we don't really start by choosing a location. I usually start with the storyline."
General director Toshihiro Nagoshi also spoke about the content of "Yakuza", saying that its theme transcends culture.
"I think this is a unique game, with a very different premise. But you can rest assured that it's high-quality entertainment, based on how well it has done in Japan," Nagoshi told IGN. "But beyond the uniqueness, I hope you'll find there are themes and drama that speak to people no matter where they're from."
The "Yakuza" series is developed and published by Sega and was first released in December 2005 for PlayStation 2. To learn more, log on to sega.com. The official summary for Yakuza 5 can be found after the video.
