Winter is a tough time for your skin. To help you survive the season with glowing skin, learn our tips and tricks here.
Many failed to recognize that winter is harsh to the skin. During this season, there is reduced moisture in the air that causes a dry, itchy and irritated skin, GreenBayPressGazette reported.
To avoid these skin problems, try these tips from The Hollywood Life. These tricks will also help you maintain a glowing skin in the midst of the harsh winter weather.
- Drink water - Lori Buss, a clinical aesthetician at Prevea Rejuvenate in Green Bay, stressed that the first defense in good skin starts from the inside. She recommends to drink plenty of water. "Hydration is very important," Buss said. "Not only is drinking water good for your skin, but it's good for your health in general. If you are dehydrated, the dryer your skin is going to be." Aside from water, it will also help if you eat more hydrating food that is water-based like celery, carrots and avocado.
- Exfoliate - Exfoliating your skin is the easiest way to revive the dull and dry skin that the winter season brings. This will also help you get rid of the dead skin that causes flakiness and dryness. AllWomenStalk reported that this also helps prevent breakouts, fights signs of aging, improve skin's texture and even out skin tone.
- Moisturize - At this time of the year, you should not skip your moisturizer. Moisturizers create a protective barrier to shield your skin from drying to the cold air. In fact, it is recommended that you moisturize twice daily. This skincare contains hydrating ingredients. You should also use eye cream because eyes have fewer oil glands and the area around the eyes needs to be replenished because it is fragile.
- Use a lower SPF - During this season, you are not exposed to the sun as you do during summer, so using a high percentage of SPF is unnecessary. SPF 15 provides 94 percent protection, SPF 20 95 percent, the higher the SPF the higher the protection but they differ in how natural they are. Some might contain toxic chemicals that preserve and stabilize the product. So in this season, protect your skin in a smart way, use natural sunscreens with lower SPF.
- Use a humidifier - PopSugar reported that humidifier supports beautiful skin. By sleeping with a humidifier on through the night, one will wake up with a better skin. The face looks more supple while the hands and lips don't feel dry and dehydrated. Aside from this, humidifier relieves sinusitis, alleviates snoring and lubricates nasal passages for asthma, colds and allergies.
