'Star Wars: Episode 8' Release Date & Trailer: Gwendoline Christie Confirms Captain Phasma Return -- What We Know So Far
If there is one thing that all fans who have seen "Star Wars Episode VII: The Force Awakens" can agree upon, it is that the story was a refreshing throw back to the original trilogy.
However, one part of the story that could be considered a disappointment was the lack of screen time Captain Phasma, played by Gwendoline Christie. Many might know Christie from her role as Brienne of Tarth from the HBO show "Game of Thrones."
Screen Rant reported that the initial marketing push for Captain Phasma was actually strong. Also, since many of the trailers did not provide a lot of information about that film, fans believed that Phasma would get more screen time than she did.
Early rumors of the character had her being a Boba Fett type character, with little words but a lot of action. Unfortunately, fans did not get much time with Captain Phasma.
The good news is that Cinemablend is reporting that Captain Phasma will be returning for "Star Wars Episode VIII."
The news of Captain Phasma's return came when Christie was seen at the SAG awards, where the British actress revealed that her character will be returning for the next film.
It seems that Christie might have let the cat of the bag too early, as after she confirmed her role in "Star Wars Episode VIII," she stated the she might have given the reporters and exclusive.
The actress also revealed that she had been campaigning for the part for a long time, and that she was more than happy when she got the call from J.J. Abrams. Christie stated that it was a long shot for her to get the part since it was originally written for a man.
So, what is in store for Captain Phasma in the next film? As of right now, not a lot is known.
But, a lot of fans are clamoring for a better back story to several key members of the First Order including Captain Phasma and Kylo Ren.
All that has been shared with fans so far is that Rian Johnson is writing and directing the film. According to Screen Rant, the film already has been pushed back six months for re-writes by Johnson.
So, fans will have to wait for more news about Captain Phasma's ultimate fate as it comes gets released.
