'Star Wars: Episode 8' Release Date & Trailer: Is Rey The New Luke Skywalker? Yes, She Could Be [Fan Theory]

There have been many speculations surrounding the lineage of the female protagonist Rey. One popular fan theory speculates that Rey is actually the daughter of Luke Skywalker, however, this may not be the case.

Youth Health Mag reports that Mark Hamill who plays Luke Skywalker may have hinted that the popular fan theory may not be true. He is known to drop subtle hints regarding "Star Wars Episode 8."

The report from Movie Pilot states that Hamill had been very supportive of fans, attending many conventions and interacting with them regularly in Twitter.

When he was asked by a fan about Luke's sexuality, the actor had not confirmed or denied anything, leaving the idea open for speculations. "The Force Awakens" has stirred up a lot of discussion about the possibility of LGBT characters in Star Wars 7 (or 8 or 9).

However, Hamill only said that the sexuality was never directly addressed in the film. The sexuality of Luke Skywalker is open to the audience's interpretation, he added. This prompted that idea that Rey may not be Luke's daughter after all.

On the other hand, Cinema Blend reports that it might be possible that Rey is actually the daughter of Han Solo and Leia. The website said that this may be the reason why Han Solo felt comfortable immediately with Rey when he saw her. Making her a crew of the Millennium Falcon might be one way of Han Solo's effort to make up for the years he has not seen her.

Another theory says that Rey is actually a descendant of Obi-Wan Kenobi. There are very little clues as to who Rey's parents are.

The "Force Awakens" has many parallels with a "New Hope" with Rey mirroring Luke Skywalker.

Meanwhile, fans have already speculated that filming for the sequel has already begun and Daisy Ridley had dropped a major "Star Wars Episode 8" spoiler, reports Health Youth Mag. The actress reportedly snapped a photo of a bouquet of flowers with the hashtag #VIII and posted it on Instagram. The bouquet of flowers also went with a little note which begins with "As we begin this tremendous...." and "... appreciation for your..."

"Star Wars: Episode 8" opens in theatres on Dec. 15, 2017. There have been very minimal details on the upcoming film's plot. So far, only fan speculations that have been surfacing all over the Internet regarding some possible "Star Wars Episode 8" spoilers.
