Drew Barrymore on Being Healthy Despite Having a Mom-Bod: 'Hot is a State of Mind'
This girl is on fire! Drew Barrymore graces the cover of Harper's Bazaar this March, in which she speaks up about juggling multiple careers and a family at the same time, People reports.
The 40-year-old actress compared her life when she was single and focused on her career versus now that she has two small children, a family to care for, and a business to run. She founded the production company Flower Films in 1997, which spawned films such as "Never Been Kissed," "Charlie's Angels," and "Donnie Darko." From film production, the company has grown into makeup and cosmetic lines in 2013.
With so many up and coming actors and actresses making their way into Hollywood superstardom, it seems like older, well-established stars like Barrymore are somehow kept in the back of people's minds when they don't have much projects to keep them on film or television. But this doesn't faze Barrymore at all. She admitted that with so much going on off camera, she doesn't have time to worry about what other people think.
"I think it's a huge mistake to think you have to burn bright for your whole life," Barrymore told Harper's Bazaar. "You cannot sustain it. It's exhausting, and it's not very realistic."
In fact, her definition of "hot" goes way deeper than one's skin, which is indeed very refreshing in the world of social media-driven self-worth.
"Hot is a state of mind. It’s an energy. You’re hot when you’re motivated. It means you want it and you’re going after it," Barrymore said, as per ABC News. "Hot isn’t about being on the A-list or having a hot body. It’s literally people who are on fire. Like Lena Dunham is on fire. Amy Schumer. Louis C.K. I think their brands of comedy and observational life stuff are some of the coolest I’ve seen in so many years."
Barrymore admits that she is happy to live away from the spotlight with her art consultant husband, Will Kopelman and their two daughters, three-year-old Olive and one-year-old Frankie. She spends her time bi-coastally, in Los Angeles and in Manhattan, where she raises her children while managing her businesses, which include Barrymore Wines.
Barrymore also serves as producer in the upcoming romantic comedy "How to Be Single" based on Liz Tuccillo's novel of the same name. The film stars Rebel Wilson, Dakota Johnson, Alison Brie, and Leslie Mann, and is set to be released this month. It seems that whether it's in front or behind the camera, Barrymore is holding down the fort, all while looking and feeling hot at 40.
