'Star Wars: Episode 8' Cast & Release Date: John Boyega Shows Off Workout Routine; Actor to Have a More Physical Role in Sequel?
John Boyega is working out hard for a more physical role in the anticipated film "Star Wars: Episode 8." Learn about his workout routines here.
As "Star Wars: Episode 8" heads production, there are reports coming in that the next film will be more physical than "Star Wars: The Force Awakens." Well, it seems that those reports were true because Boyega is training to get toned, MovieWeb reported. He will be reprising his role as Finn in the next "Star Wars" film.
On his personal Twitter account, Boyega showed off his workout routine. He captioned his photo with "VIII." It was short but straightforward and for sure, "Star Wars" fans already know what he meant for it.
In an interview with Vogue, Boyega was asked about the lightsaber scene in "Star Wars: The Force Awaken" if he prepared or trained for it. "No, for this film we really just took it scene by scene, there wasn't a huge regime," he said.
"My part in the next film will be much more physical so I might be in the gym a bit more," he added.
According to Business Insider, after filming "The Force Awakens," the actor sought out the trainer who got Michael B. Jordan in shape for "Creed." "He saw how Michael looked in 'Creed' and said, 'I want that guy," Corey Calliet said. That explains why the actor looked leaner and ripper on the red carpet.
Calliet said that Boyega's workout includes a 15-minute run on treadmill, four set of 20 reps of bench presses with eight to 12 push-ups between each set, four sets of 20 assisted pull-ups, four sets of 20 lat-pull downs, four sets of 20 stiff-leg dead lifts and a cardio of stairs and suicide on the football field.
"John had never lifted weights like that before," Calliet said. "He had muscles he never had before. I was very impressed. If Disney lets me put him where he needs to be at, he'll be the rippest person you'll ever see on 'Star Wars.'"
In the last "Star Wars" film, Rey (Daisy Ridley) was the superstar and many were convinced that she would be the next Jedi. However, Boyega's character isn't ready to give up the lightsaber yet.
Per the report, the "Attack of the Block" star is not only working out but he has also been practicing his fencing skills, which hints that he might be using a lightsaber of his own in "Star Wars: Episode 8."
