Kevin Durant-Warriors Rumor: Thunder Star on a Possible Move, 'I Can't Control Any of That'
Few months leading to the highly-anticipated summer of 2016, there were some talks already regarding one of the wealthiest free agency in NBA history not just in terms of talent, but of the salary cap brought about by the league's new TV mega deals.
But, none more intriguing than the prospect of Kevin Durant moving to the Golden State Warriors. A blockbuster deal with ramifications comparable only with that of "The Big Three" era. It will be "The Decision" fiasco all over again.
To be fair, the superstar forward has always been consistent with how he has handled rumors even in the past. Durant has been adamant that he is committed to his current team and has not been involved with any talks regarding the possibility of a future change of ZIP.
On the latest rumors, the NBA 2013-2014 Most Valuable Player said, via Anthony Slater of The Oklahoman, "I can't control any of that."
"Just got to work hard every single day, focus on what's in front of me and not worry about what's going to happen down the line. All that stuff I can't control. Like I said, when that time comes we'll talk about it, but for right now, I'm 100 percent committed and locked in on being the best team and player I can be and helping my team try to get a championship," he added, the Sports Illustrated reported.
Apart from getting a legitimate shot at a championship and potentially cementing his legacy as one of the best players who ever stepped on the hardcourt, another big reason for Durant to join the Warriors is the prospect of teaming up with Steph Curry.
While Durant currently has a great partner in Russell Westbrook, Curry has proven that his prodigious talent can translate into an NBA championship. And apart from on-court brilliance, Durant can also count on Curry as one of the spiritual people in his life, whom he has been constantly in search of, Yahoo Sports' Adrian Wojnarowski noted in his article.
"The Warriors already have everything and yet they're threatening to take more now. Steph Curry.Klay Thompson. Draymond Green. Committed ownership. Bob Myers, the executive of the year. Steve Kerr, a championship coach," wrote Wojnarowski.
"Yes, Golden State has everything, including the ability to create the salary-cap space and a belief that Durant's persona could fit seamlessly - even onto a potential two-time defending champion."
It wouldn't be that easy for Warriors to pull off the Durant acquisition come July 2016. They may have to part ways with some of the integral pieces of the championship team like Andrew Bogut, Andre Iguodala and Harrison Barnes. But, with the prospect of landing, arguably, the best offensive forward in the NBA today, the opportunity is just too good to pass up.
