Burger King will offer something new to its fans in all 7,100 U.S. locations this month. Classic and chilli cheese hot dogs will be added to their menu starting Feb. 23.

The Miami-based chain has announced on Wednesday that it will officially include hot dogs at participating U.S. locations starting Feb 23. Burger King will become the largest restaurant brand to serve hot dogs, said North American Burger King Brand President Alex Macedo to Mashable.

Its ability to flame-grill meat makes hot dogs a natural fit on its menu. "This is probably the most obvious product launch ever," Macedo tells Daily Mail.

The 100 percent beef hotdogs are flamed-grilled just like the Whopper burgers, according to reports. The hotdogs are made from proprietary blend of ingredients by established hot dog company Oscar Mayer, which is owned by Kraft Heinz. The investment firm 3G Capital manages both Restaurant Brands and Kraft Heinz.

The Classic Grilled Dog is topped with ketchup, mustard, chopped onions and relish. This classic menu sells for the recommended price of $1.99. There are chances that prices may vary according to locations. This is packed with 310 calories, says Mashable.

The Chili Cheese Grilled Dog, on the other hand, is topped with warm chilli and shredded cheddar cheese. It has a recommended selling price of $2.29. This one is packed with 330 calories, according to Mashable.

"We've worked to bring guests a hot dog that tastes like [a] backyard barbeque," Macedo said to CNN.

Burger King started experimenting with hot dogs in five cities last year. After finding that sales exceeded targets, the chain has decided to go nationwide.

This move comes as Burger King works to increase sales amid intensifying competition. Its competitors like McDonald's has started offering breakfast items all day hoping to increase sales while Wendy's offers a "4 for $4" deal to encourage more customers in the door, reports Daily Mail.

In 2014, Burger King's sales reportedly increased 2.1 percent at established locations in the U.S. and Canada. The mother company, Restaurant Brands International Inc., will report results for 2015 performance next week.

However, Macedo emphasized that Burger King will stick to its roots as a fast-food restaurant rather than imitating fast-casual restaurants like Chipotle and Panera. So, that means Burger King has no intention of getting too fancy. The company has even tested table service in some markets, reports CNN.

By serving hot dogs, Burger King directly competes with Sonic Drive-In. The drive-in chain reportedly sells 12 different kinds of hot dogs. However, Burger King believes it has an edge over it since their hotdogs are grilled instead of boiled.
