Sea Level to rise 70 meters; NASA released video shows clear signs of fast melting old ice
Are we ready to face the consequences rising levels of sea water all around the world? Well, we need to take precaution steps fast because the disastrously melting ice in the arctic region is arming.
It is estimated that sea level would rise about 70 meters covering the coastal areas and drowning the cities there. The recent video released by NASA is showing clear signs of melting ice which was solid and frozen in the region since centuries.
Walt Meier who is an expert sea ice researcher at NASA's Goddard Space Flight Center maintained, "The older ice that was there since decades is disappearing." He further added, "The good solid old ice works like a barricade of sea ice:
Usually warm summer melts the new thin ice into water can't fully melt the older ice. But the older ice remains. The alarming situation is that now the older ice is lesser in amount and is getting broken and weaker. The barricade that it used to be is no more there."
How serious is the situation? This can be well estimated by the fact that in 1984, the old ice was 2 million sq km in the Arctic region but this has dropped to only 110,0000 sq km in September 2016. The red signal has started blinking!
Walt Meier says, "Most of the old ice is melted. In the80s, the old ice made up one fifth of the sea ice cover. But now it is merely 3%."
"No doubt, the older ice worked as a guard or better say as an insurance policy for the Arctic sea ice pack. We are losing this pack because of global warming and it is clearly foreseen that an ice-free summer will soon settle in Arctic."
An accurate mathematical calculation of the difference in solid ice in Antarctic in 984 and 2016 can give a clear indication to after how long is the summer expected when the Arctic will witness an ice-free summer and the world will witness a huge rise in sea water!
