Supermario Runs A New Race On Apple
Supermario is undoubtedly the most popular game of its time. It almost single handedly catapulted Nintendo to the numero uno position in game publishing. It was the undisputed king of the 8 and 16 bit videogame era which inevitably lost to the more advanced, sleek and smarter computer games, game consoles and mobile games.
The good news is that instead of dumping down the old character, Nintendo is resurrecting it in an entirely new setup. Interestingly Nintendo has chosen Apple as the go-to platform for its latest inning. Its a gamble in more ways than one. First its a game not familiar with the current gaming generation, second Apple is not a universal platform, despite its immense popularity it doesn't have the 'common man' reach globally and third and most important factor is that Apple is one of the competitors of Nintendo's own product verticals - Hand-held games.
December 15th will see the official release of Supermario Run for iphone and ipad. With this announcement Nintendo is once again hoping to cement its place as the top gaming publisher, specially after the super-success of its previous game Pokeman go. However that game was a joint venture unlike Supermario run which is completely and exclusively Nintendo created, developed and owned. There must be something that others don't know, something which only Nintendo knows and is secretly aspiring for.
The early reviews suggest happy days ahead for Nintendo as most critics have given 'Supermario Run' thumbs-up. Its easier to play when compared to the original video game but interestingly this is both its weakness and strength. A few may find it not challenging enough while many will love its simplicity and one-hand play. Graphics is unanimously appreciated and to entice new gamers the game has been kept 'free' for the first three levels, after which a one time $10 has to be paid to access the remaining 21 levels and extra content. This is again a gamble considering the countless free mobile games.
With time world will witness how this gamble paid but till then Nintendo will continue to be relevant in the game arena. Supermario fans will hope the down and out superhero still has that one knockout punch left.
