‘Penny Dreadful’ Season 4 Renewal: Netflix Wants To Continue The Series?; Eva Green Reportedly Interested
After the showtime's supernatural drama "Penny Dreadful" ended after three seasons, fans have been petitioning for the network and the show's creators to continue with the series. Reports have also claim that Eva Green is still interested in working on the show.
"Penny Dreadful" officially ended with the death of Vanessa Ives (Eva Green). The creator of the series, John Logan confirmed in June that it was the end of the show, but this has not stopped fans from insisting that the series should continue.
The petition which is launched on Change.org, aims to reach 15,000 signatures and hopes to have enough attention, especially from networks and streaming programs like Netflix. It is reported that the petition requires a little more than 600 signatures to reach its goal.
But even if it reaches its goal, there is assurance that Logan would continue working on the series. He had said when the show ended, that he had always envisioned it to be a three-season story, and there would be no point doing a sequel or spin-off without Vanessa Ives.
"I can absolutely confirm it is really over, the end, that is all she wrote. The whole idea to have this be the end of the series applies to all of the characters not just for Vanessa Ives..... I think this is the right ending so for me to revisit that world again would seem inorganic, I think," He said to Deadline.
Logan also confirmed that if David Nevins, showtime executive ever approached him in the future about revisiting the show or doing something related, he would be open to conversations, but the show is officially done and over.
However, fans believe that Penny Dreadful can still be continued in some way or form, even without the lead, Vanessa Ives, at the center of the story. Those who have seen Penny Dreadful would know that the show boasts a stellar list of characters with rich stories that could lead to solid sub-plots and spin-offs.
There are rumors and assumptions that a Penny Dreadful spinoff series would happen with Catriona (Perdita Weeks) at the center of the story. After all, in the last few episodes of Season 3, Vanessa was seen grooming Catriona to be her successor.
It is also likely that a spin-off would follow Mr. Lyle's journey to Egypt. This could serve as an excellent storyline for the spin-off.
There are also rumors that Netflix is interested in picking up the show's Season 4, and all that is needed is a new show-runner and director to continue the series. The show being a horror and supernatural series, will not find it difficult to bring Vanessa Ives back from the dead, according to University Herald.
If the rumors are true and Netflix really gets interested in doing a fourth season or a spin-off and also manage to get the rights from Showtime, it might have to continue without the input of John Logan or any of the original cast.
